Great movie. Love the Peter Cushing story. The same company actually made a couple of movies like this one. The Vault of Horror works pretty much in the same vein(artist is able to use paintings as voodo dolls, a man doesn't reallize he murdered a vampire, etc.). The other one I know of was Asylum that does pretty much the same thing(woman's dismembered corpse comes back for revenge, man is able to mentally control a doll, etc.). All of 'em are worth tracking down for at least a rental.

I love Tales From The Crypt. the movie has an allstar cast with the likes of Cushing, Joan Collins, Ralph richardson, Ian Hendry, Patrick McGhee, Roy dotrice, etc. there alot of good classic anthologies just like Tales, Vault, and Asylum that were made by Amicus. You got the Torture Garden, From Beyond The Grave, Monster Club, Tales That Witnessed Madness, Dr. Terrors House of Horrors, The House That Dripped Blood, etc. all are worth checking out.

#SPOILERS#
Tales From the Crypt is an EXCELLANT UK horror movie, from the Amicus anthology period of films (early 70's).
It consists of 5 stories- (not in the order they are in the film)
1/ Joan Collins in ALL THROUGHT THE HOUSE- About a women who murders her husband, and is then stalked via a maniac in a Santa Claus outfit. 5 stars
2/ A story about a man who leaves his wife, to go off with a mistress. On the way he is in a car-crash, but survives. Yet things seem a little strange...people who see him run off in fright. In the end he is revealed to be dead. 3-1/2 stars
3/ Peter Cushing stars as an widowed elderly man, who enjoys being kind and making toys for the young children in his neighbourhood. Soon a younger man starts a hate vendetta against him, which results in Cushing hanging himself. But he soon comes back as a zombie to get REVENGE. 4-1/2 stars
4/ A man and a women gain a statue (I think) which allows them to grant wishes. But soon the man is dead, and the women has wished for him to come back alive.....in the most painful way.
5/ My favourite story, involves an old army Major taking charge of an old man's home for the blind. Soon the ome is in a mess, as the Major uses all the money up on himself. When one of the men die, the blind take a truely terrifying revenge, involving a homemade maze construction, razor blades in the wall, and a very very hungry dog.
The film is a true classic, the 1st story being a clear inspiration for some of the slasher films to come in the late 70's/early 80's.
EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THIS MOVIE.

This movie was just ok, and actually the show was based on a series of comics, not the 1970 film. If you liked any version of Tales From the Crypts, attempt to find the comics. They are almost impossible to find, a little pricey, but blow away the movies and the show.

I watched this flick a couple of years ago and wasn't very impressed. Then again, I wasn't exactly the same horror fan that I am now, so I might feel differently about it today. This thread has given me incentive to watch it again. However, I know for a fact that I enjoyed the updated version of All Through the House, featuring scream king Larry Drake, considerably more than the '70s version.

I loved this film. I wish they made more movies like this today. Campfire Tales was okay (at least worth a rental). There are dozens of short horror story anthologies available in bookstores. All it would take is a little digging to find some great plotlines. Put in a few new directors (not brand new, but people still happy to get a movie contract) and unknown actors and you could make a great horror film for cheap.
