I think i remember seeing it in new york, in 1997.

It came out in 1987,a zombie flick with an army of zombies coming out from under a bridge and killing people at night only, they get killed by water,i know it sounds dumb.

Yey. I love this movie. Saw it when I was a kid and would love to see it again. Probably be hard to track down though eh? And from what I saw I guess you could call it a slasher. Isn't one of the maniacs a samurai with a sword or something. I think I remember a death scene involving a girl bent down "performing" on a guy in a park and one of them (can't remember which but it would be funny either way) getting beheaded and the other one not realising.
Excellent film. And I remember these cards of monsters when I was a kid but don't know if they were the official cards of the film. What were they like? Were they neon-coloured or glow in the dark or something? And how many were there?

theres 12 zombies, slash mohawk, thing, samura etc., and the card were gonna be official but the movie didnt do too good to do good with extras such as cardsa and memoriabillia...i have the theatrical released poster, straight from my neighbors collection of which he owned a theatre in the 80's....i also have lobby cards etc.,i dont know marta kober...

She's the one who got speared by Jason while she was making love with her boyfriend. She was short and had the curly red hair.

I thought I should let everyone know that this rare as hell, horribly distributed, movie will be getting a RE-RELEASE on VHS AND DVD by Anchor Bay, and it will happen on August 20, the same day other films that are long overdue on DVD come out: Sleepaway Camp 2+3 and Tobe Hoopers Spontaneous Combustion. This is great news for the few fans of this movie there are and also for people who haven't been able to see it for all these years.

Neon Maniacs??
I'm sorry guys...I rented this one from my Hollywood Video ( and since their a franchise and always have the same stuff, if you live near a Hollywood video and you have trouble finding this movie to rent, i suggest check there) and it was the worst mvie, next to BONES and BLOODY MURDER i have ever seen.
IMHO of course...

You disliked it that much? Really? That's strange, I mean I haven't seen Bones and don't plan on doing so, but I have seen Bloody Murder which is just a totally unoriginal, boring, and copycat worthless movie, so I really don't think that NM belongs or deserves to be grouped along with it.
I finally got the chance to see this movie after reading what I could about it, so going in I thought I'd like it, and I did. You could say this movie delivered where Nightbreed didn't, for me. I felt it was a really different and original idea, I liked how the killers were a band of assorted monsters, I thought their various gimmicks and methods were creative, and they did pretty well considering the very small budget they must have had. I admit that the whole water kills them deal was a bit weak, but I thought the movie had great atmosphere and the music was VERY good and eerie.
Its definitely a one of a kind movie that if nothing else should be appreciated for its unique approach. And judging by the ending it seems as if a sequel was planned, but never came about.

I don't think your taste is bad Cory, as you can see from my positive comments about the movie above. And yes, I'm serious about the DVD release, the copy I have now on VHS I taped off TV when I saw it last month, but I will definitely try to get the DVD when it comes out this summer. Glad you're back!

How can anyone put Bones with Bloody Murder, love or hate Bones I think you'll agree it is Oscar worthy compared to BLoody Murder.

I actually saw this on Sci-Fi channel like last month. I only caught the last 15 min, when they were in the school dance or something and then they went back to the bridge with the cops.
It looked alright...

neon maniacs on the sci-fi channel?hard to believe and highly doubt it,it might be true but i still just doubt it nonetheless....alienclown,what channel did u watch it on?and on the dvd,any special features u heard about?thanks
AlienClown

Cory,
Bearazz is right, it was on SciFi, that's the channel that showed it and I watched it on, its the only channel on TV that I think would. I don't think it had ever been shown on TV before and probably won't air again for at least a few years if ever again. As of right now there's no info out there about any DVD specifics, come late spring/early summer, Anchor Bay will release the specs. I'd think there'd at least be a trailer and commentary. Just those two would be pretty cool.
XCoRyX
03-15-2002, 03:47 PM
there damn right better be a trailer...i have been waiting for this....after all the movie was in theatres so it had to have had a trailer!commentary by leilani sarrelle is probably our only chance for commentary everyone from that movie left the industry pretty much, unless they have shit from when it was first made...andrew divoff could be cool and do some commentary, after all he was the doctor zombie who ripped the security guards heart out at the school dance...

I saw about half of Neon Maniacs on TV awhile back, and it didn't do much for me. I may have to give it another shot once it hits DVD.

i'd recommend doing so,though i doubt you'll enjoy it,not many of majority does.

I own the movie and think it's alright. The Make-up fx was cool but the ending was dumb, the music score was terrible and the the film needed more gore to the violence. I know gore doesn't make a movie but this film needed but it's not bad. Good for a weekend rental. and the acting wasn't that bad. Suprising!

I love this movie! If you like it, its probably because the movie is not that good. I also saw it on Sci-fi, man I love that channel! I actually wrote a column for my school newspaper about this movie. Something about how it parallels Pokemon, but it is not as scary. Cant wait for the DVD
XCoRyX
03-21-2003, 11:39 PM
hmm id love to read that article you wrote...how does this film relate with pokemon?I am the minority, and THE only one,who found this film great in the most serious ways possible, enjoyed the score VERY much, the acting was fine, the gore and effects were also fine as well.

The music score was way too chessy and made the film look a made for tv flick. The film is no classic but it is still okay.

i guess me liking the score big time is an example of how odd my taste is.

I still haven`t seen this movie. But the 80`s tone sounds appealing to me.
So in this movie there`s a bunch of monsters with distint personalities, kinda like "13 Ghosts"?
XCoRyX
03-24-2003, 07:35 AM
im not exactly sure what you mean by distant personalities...but they are zombies, but all have a theme or so you can say,to them. They all have names too,but thats only on the back of the box and in the credits and such, they arent used in the film.

it isnt truly noted if she survives or not.But she isnt in the movie long, she plays the lead girl's best friend. She is nothing important just your basic cliche girlfriend.

I bought it today and watched it the same day and I exepected something more.
I was a bit disapointed but on the cheese level I was not disapointed at all.
However it is not as entertaining and enjoyable as Chopping, by far !!
It is not gory at all and u have some plot holes.
The acting is awful,so is the music.
The end is very bad, the last dialogue :
Keep your waterguns because it is gonna rain any longer " and that's all, come on !!!
6/10 not more.

I was doing a search for a 2001 Maniacs thread when I came across this one. This film has had me intrigued for a couple of years now. Did that dvd ever come out? I don't ever remember seeing it and Anchor Bay is a pretty good company with their distribution. I would love to check this one out and in a couple of months I'll be keeping an eye out for it. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Just to let you know, some dude (aka me) made a fanpage for this flick, and just jotted up the first interview I did with a former cast member. This is a rare movie so I figured the rare fans would want to read the interview?...
