*Dont worry, no spoilers*
Premise - In this adaptation of Stephen King's novel, Christopher Walken plays a man who, after being in a coma for 5 years, wakes up and finds he has a supernatural power. This power allows him to see visions of things to come by touching someone. This power comes into play later on in the film and he must make a terrible choice...one that will determine the future of millions.
The Good - Walken plays the part superbly and it is the first time I have seen him in a movie as the main character. The essence of the movie is captured well and the New England setting is done equally well.
The Bad - The part of Sarah did not live up to my expectations and looked nothing like I pictured her to be. I also didn't think that Martin Sheen was entirely in-step as Greg Stillson. The movie changes some important themes that were in the book to make it more time-effecient. Unfortunately, this doesn't allow much character build-up or story build-up into the mix. Thus, the movie seems a little rushed compared to the novel.
Overall - The Dead Zone is a decent movie that stands true and honest to itself. The acting by Walken is great and the scenery wonderful. The absence of gore and nudity is alright because it doesn't fit into the story appropiately and the book even shied away from these areas. Good to watch with family or someone special as something to do for the night.
Acting - 90%
Directing - 75%
Nudity - 10% (Murder Victim)
Gore - 45%
Book-To-Movie Accuracy - 75%
Overall - 85%
