I know this'll prolly get moved or deleted or something, but I figured the people on this board could help me answer this one.

Has anyone noticed the picture difference when watching a movie on a video and on TV? And on the news, and movies you made yourself? Its not the quality, its just something different with the picture i was never able to quite put my finger on. Sorry for the n00b question, but I have to know! Its been driving me insane for the last nine years or so! I guess I was just too lazy to ask someone...

It does have something to do with the quality. But it also has something to do with how it was made. Most movies are made with film which look very different from video and some lower budgeted movies were made with a lower stock instead of the standard 35 mm <like Evil Dead was made with 16 mm>. Most TV shows and news shows are done on video which has a different look as well. But some shows like certain dramas are done with film and then transfered to video to be broadcasted which then gives it a completely different look. When you tape something on a blank tape, that tape is usually not as good a quality as as digital video or film so it looks like shit. The medium used <film or video> has a lot to do with the quaity and look of a show or movie. <of course i could be making this all up>
