When I was watching "Donnie Darko", I was like "whoa, I have to get this soundtrack". There were so many awesome 80`s songs that I hadn`t heard in a while and brought back memories.
Well I checked out the soundtrack on Amazon.com, and much to my dissapointment, it seems that NONE of those songs are on it - except for that "Sad World" song (that`s the song near the very end of the movie, with the guy singing "the dreams in which I`m dying are the best I`ve ever had...").
That`s right - there`s no Depeche Mode, no Echo & The Bunnymen, no Joy Division, and no The Church.
Now, usually I don`t like it when a movie soundtrack is just a bunch of rock songs, but this was one case where I thought the songs actually made MORE of an impression than the score.
Just thought I`d let you guys know about this.

The director talks about that very issue sometime during the commentary on the DVD. I forget why the songs weren't to be included on the soundtrack, but he says why.

"Mad World" was included because it was a brand new remake of an older version. I still wouldn't mind having it just for the film's score.

Just download the songs off of Audio Galaxy or something else.

Hmmm, maybe it was too expensive to get them on the soundtrack.
I didn`t hear the commentary because the video store only had VHS copies in stock.

Damn I was looking foward to getting the cd but I suspected as much. It still is a really nice score though.

well Arrow mentioned The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bynnymen being in the movie, so I was really expecting a good eighties soundtrack...But I haven't seen the movie yet, so I cant really comment on it.
but alas, It's Spring Break! I'll have plenty of time to catch up on the new movies coming out.
