It's a comedy directed by Peter Jackson, which has been appropriatly nicknamed "Muppets on Acid," it's about a popular childrens show that has the typical happy animal creature things singing and shit. But then it shows what it's like backstage, and trust me they all lead fucked up lives. Then it all leads to a grand finale that involves a giant hippo with a machine gun, 'nuff said. It's worth a rent, or perhaps even a purchase if it's cheap.

It was never popular mainstream wise I don't think, but it does have a rather large cult following

I'd been dying to see this one for years until just last Thursday when I noticed our local video store somehow had managed to dig up a copy of the DVD. Well needless to say I was shocked and snatched up the only copy.
The flick was pretty cool, but not as funny as the premise had made it sound. It has that "Peter Jackson" feel that was present in Bad Taste and Dead Alive. You can totally see why Jackson added the "baby in the park" scene in Dead Alive after watching MTF.
I'm kind of torn on this film. I want to say it was a let-down, but I do really want to see it again, so it must have done some thing right. It was pretty funny really. I guess I just had it built up far too much in my head.
If they ever release a loaded DVD I'll probably have to pick it up just on the "strangeness" factor alone. A great movie to show your friends.
