I was reading list of slashers when Funhouse came up and I wanted to know what you guys thought of it.

Does it have gore?
Does it have nudity?
Does it have jumpy scenes in it?

THE FUNHOUSE (1981) Directed by Tobe Hooper. Four teens (Elizabeth Berridge, Cooper Huckabee, Largo Woodruff and Miles Chapin) secretly spend the night in a seedy carnival funhouse, and become targets of a crazed, disfigured madman and his father (Kevin Conway) after witnessing the murder of the resident fortune teller (Sylvia Miles). Shawn Carson co-stars as Berridge’s younger brother, who is obsessed with horror films. The film’s opening sequence spoof, which introduces the siblings, is a cross between “Halloween” and “Psycho”. Conway does triple duty as three sleazy runway barkers. Hooper proves with this film (as with his three other greats, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “Salem’s Lot” and “Poltergeist”), that he is one of the genre’s best filmmakers. One of many underrated horror gems of the early 80’s. My grade: B

To answer UnknownFreak's questions: Average gore, mild nudity and a few jump scenes.

A little gore,not alot
breast shot in first scene(dont be fooled by first halloween ripoff scene)and a strip bar(in a carnival?)

I guess I must be the minority here cause I think that it sux. When my friends and I rented this crap we were amazed at how shitty it was. Aside form the opening tit shot and the cool looking monster I remmeber hating this shit. It is just more crap from the once great tobe hooper. Shit aside from Texas Chainsaw 1 & 2 and Plotergiest, his shit ranges from medicre to total crap. I give Funhouse, a 1 1/2 out of 4.

No! The movie the Funhouse and the book Funhouse are not connected whatsoever! This is a common misconception and one I have had wars over before. I am here to prove whoever thinks this wrong by the following facts!

1-No review or movie discription of the movie Funhouse mentions the book by koontz

2-No reissue of the book Funhouse mentions that it is a movie.

3- The book Funhouse was first released in 1980 under one of koontz's other names which was Owen West.

4- In the opening credits of the movie Funhouse the writer is shown to be a Mr. Larry Block and this name is not one Mr.Koontz ever used. The movie was released in 1981.

5-I have read and watched the movie and can tell you that although there are some things that could be considered simular however they are not connected.

6- This is what you get when a book and a movie bears the same name! Alot of confusion and misconception!

I hope noone dare wants to argue this with me, Ive done the research and I know of what I am saying. Not even the most respected video guide mentions any connections believe me it is all a tall tale!

Thank you drive thru!

This is a damn fine movie. I picked up the DVD in the bargain bin and yeah the widescreen is very narrow. I liked the first part setting up the payoff with the carnival scenes. Most people would think it is slow but it is the perfect setup. Hooper rules. If you are scared of carnies like Austin Powers then be warned. Small hands, smell like cabbage... anyway the monster/freak is pretty well done. Gotta love no CGI. The Halloween/Psycho "homage" opening wasn't needed but the movie is very good.

This movie is definitley underrated and forgotten by the mainstream public. The idea of a Funhouse is cool and that fat lady who laughed alot is the icing on the cake. One of my favorites. Any other thoughts on this movie? Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.
