Don't you think that slasher writers should think more about the killer's excuses to kill?...I mean, it is always "Your father did this", "Your mother did that", "Your grandfather's uncle's aunt's neighbor's dog's son peed in my front porch"...IT'S ALWAYS FAMILY!
Don't get me wrong, I love slashers but I noticed this...whadaya think?

They need to quit taking things so damned personally, but I have heard killing is very theraputic for stress. Within families in most American culture, anyway

Why the negative vibes outlaw, I think its a creative topic. And yes I do think they need to come up with more creative backgrounds. But I would rather have a shallow background and good directing instead of vice versa.

I'm a fan of slashers, but I agree that the killer monologue at the end can get tiresome. I actually the thought the killer's reasons in Urban Legend 2 were pretty good! SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER At least he/she wasn't killing over some piddly thing; he/she just had too much ambition! I appreciated Valentine for the fact that there was no monologue by the killer, even though the rest of the movie pretty much sucked. Worst example of a killer's monologue is probably Scream 2, I think. Totally out of left field, it was funny more than anything else.

I'm not so much irritated with the reasons given in the monologue as I am with the monologue itself. Don't explain anything to them! Just kill the fukcers! FREDDY NO!! Don't tell them that "in dreams you are forever"! See Now you gave yourself away FRED! Oh well... Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I agree why does anything really need to be explained? A slasher film is just that, slasher, if the writers cant come up with anything creative then why not leave it up to our imaginations? Most of the real people who kill have no constructive reasons for their acts.
QUESTION: Should art imitate life alittle more?

But sometimes there is a decent one, too. I mean, just look at Prom Night. Tragic and beautiful all at the same time. That's how a slasher should be done, I think, if they're going to keep the whole "whodunnit" aspect. I also always liked the "killing to cover up a witnessed crime" motive, too...Argento deals with that alot..

I don't want to hear about excuses.
It is all about motives, there is a similiar topic, posted by Antonio.
The best - one is revenge.
I don't like the turn - mad motive, which is really too easy to use.
