Ok, I rented the new version this weekend...and let me say...it scared me all over again. The "spiderwalk" scene was the most freaky, scariest thing I have seen in horror in a long time. For those of you who have not seen it...it is a must. Also I have a question for some of you schmoes...I saw a few other things in the re-release that I didn't see in the original... would tell me if I they were in the original...
1. When Regan's mother leaves her room, right after Burke is shoved out the window..did anybody see the evil "devil" statue as her mother was leaving the room, on the left hand side in the dark?
2. When father Karras is thrown through the window, did anybody else see father Merrin's face in the curtains?
Were these in the original? Thanks for any help.

I don't think the face in the curtains was in the original. As for the statue thing...I don't know...

Funny how a movie shot in the 70's can still scare the crap out of ya today. I saw this one in the theatre and it was rough...what a great film.

Yeah I saw the evil statue too and that was not in the original. That whole sequence when the lights were flickering on and off and there were weird images was freaky. I absolutely loved this version, that added scene during the exorcism when Reagan is kneeling before that huge evil statue is freaky!

I had the "pleasure" of seeing it in the theater with a know-it-all arrogant teenage fuck right behind me. He kept blathering on how this film wasn't scary, etc. etc.

During the spiderwalk scene he yelled "What the fuck!" in a scared little boy voice...and left about five minutes later.

It was great to finally see this in the theater and the new stuff only added to the film. /ubb/smile.gif

I love the new cut, but the only weak point in the whole movie was the over-long and nonsensical epilogue with Father Dyer and Lt. Kinderman. If you're familiar with "Exorcist III" it's kind of a neat scene, but in the context of this movie it seems a little forced ... a little too happy. I prefer the blunt and ambiguous ending of the original cut, but on all other counts "TVYNS" is superior.

Incidentally, I sorry to hear that so many people had "audience problems" during their respective screenings. I was lucky enough to see it with a great audience that absolutely freaked out. I'm glad that little prick behind you got his comeuppance, PackBacker. /ubb/smile.gif

Every scene added to TVYNS just enhances the whole movie. The part with the priest listening to Regan's "normal" voice in that recording room, etc. THe longer running time makes it more epic and powerful. Im forever thankful they didnt change the pea soup puke to CGI puke or something stupid.

I had a similar experience. The cinema I went to was advertising "The Exorcist", and I hadn't seen TVYHS, but this was long after it had been in the cinemas.

However, I went along anyway because I'd always wanted to see it on the big screen.

When the BBFC thing came up at the start saying it was "The Exorcist: Director's Cut", I said to my flatmate who was with me "hell motherfucking yes, it's the drector's cut." He's not too keyed up on horror movies, but I was taking him because he's seen the original version and liked it, so he asked "is that good?" to which I replied "I don't know yet, but it's different at least."

Unfortunately for me, everyone else in the cinema (a full house) couldn't care less about the difference between the original and the director's cut and decided to start laughing all the way through it.

The Line "she told me to keep my God-damn fingers away from her cunt" was the one that had them rolling in the aisles, pissing themselves laughing.

It soon became clear that these arseholes had seen this before, and were all those people you always meet that say "the Exorcist was shite", because they don't like talking and prefer movies with explosions.

That was, until the Spiderwalk scene, when they all shut the fuck up because they didn't know what to expect after that. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Another addition I noticed, to the ones already mentioned, is a scene where Karras is downstairs and he hears Regan upstairs. He looks up, and you see another subliminal flash of a demon's face just above his shoulder.
