Gotta say I love the director, and I'm looking for some nice gore and hot chicks...how's the movie?

Ughhh. This movie is AWFUL! There's a lot of nudity in it, but most of the nudes are really ugly looking chicks you wouldn't want to see naked anyway.

The atmosphere is good, but the acting is really bland and terrible. Even Julian Sands doesn't deliver his typical quality performances.

This is probably Argento's worst film.
It's a shame too, because I really love the Phantom story.

Uh, you've got the wrong movie, dude. You're thinking of Phantom of the Opera...the question is about Opera, a totally different movie.

I just bought this movie last week, and I really liked it. I consider it to be just about on par with Suspiria, which is a good thing. Lots of action and suspense, good gore, and a good story (no nude hot chicks, though).

I would get it, especially the limited edition if you can find it.

Whoops. My bad. When I hear 'Argento' and 'Opera' in the same sentence I automatically think of that retarded Julian Sands flick.

Won't happen again.

I quite liked Opera but the ending is a bit shit as many on here have pointed out in the past. But it has one of the coolest deaths involving a keyhole and police officer and some beautiful sweeping camera work with ravens flying about an opera auditorium which alone is worth watching it for.

Haven't seen Phantom of the Opera yet but I haven't heard anything good bout it and I don't ever wanna repeat of the feeling of despair and boredom I had watching The Stendal Syndrome.

I think you should watch Suspiria first if you wanna know what Argento is all about.

Happy viewing

No problem; easy mistake to make. I haven't seen Phantom of the Opera, and from what you've said and other comments I've heard, I won't be seeing it for quite a while. Thanks for the heads up on it. ; )

The movie's great and has a good share of gore & suspense.
Cristina Marsillach is a pretty hot number too.During the filming of Opera, she & Argento did not get along.

As for Argento's "Phantom", it sucks ass.

A good Argento, he had still his touch.
Sure the end in the mountains is pure crap and very forgetable but the rest was more than ok I think.
Maybe it was the most gory film of Argento and maybe the crulest I have seen ( the needles on the eyes to keep her seeing the murders !!! )
7/10 ( for Argento )
