Not long ago, I rented the classic Lugosi film to see how it would be with a music score.
Call me old fashioned, but I didn't think that the music added anything to the film, & it was inappropriately placed in some sequences, such as when the Count tells Renfield of the ship he's charted to take them to England. The lack of music in the original film added to the creepiness of that scene.

I must ask, though, if Universal is planning on rereleasing Frankenstein with music. After all, that film, like Dracula, is somewhat dated today(although Lugosi & Karloff are the main reasons we still remember them fondly), & one reason I think The Bride of Frankenstein is better is because of its wonderful music score.

I like the Philip Glass score. However I DO Feel that it tends to distract from the movie. It's used WAYYY too much. I particularily don't like the fact that they cut out the Swan Lake moment during the Opera scene. That was always my favorite part from the original.

Now while I do think that the new Dracula is enhanced by a film score, I think re-releasing Frankenstein the same way would be a horrible idea. The lack of music in Frankie is what adds to its ephemeral quality.

I loved the new score. It seriously made the movie alot more interesting for me.

i agree that the lack of music was a great benefit to the classic dracula.it added atmosphere to the movie.ive come to find out after a period of time that while some movies rise above others because of the music(Halloween),theres some movies that benefit from no music(I Spit On Your Grave)
theres my 2 cents for ya
