When I was watching The Lost boys the other day corey haims character asks his mom to close his closet door so he could go to sleep. I realized I'm the exact same way. I don't know if it just has a bad rep for housing the boogey man or what the deal is but I get nervous at night if my closet door is open. So I decided to call a survey to see how many of the horror loving schmoes out there have the same problem as I. (by the way the concept of Monster Inc. is actually really really scary if they had decided to take it to an adult level, Who wouldn't be scared of monsters jumping out of their closet to harness their screams for power)

I have sort of the same problem, if that's what you want to call it. I can't sleap at night if any door in my room (whether it be the closet or the door to my room or the doors on my TV cabinet)are open. I'm not scared, I'm just weird.

Well....my closet has a door, a desk, a computer, a chair, and tons of junk in front of it...so I wouldn't worry about anything being in there...

When I came in last night at about 11:05pm i went straight up to bed. I switched the light off and got in. 1o minutes later I had to get out and shut my closet door because it made me feel uneasy. Also towels have a habit of falling (or jumping?)out. Creepy

Closet door being open isnt too bad, but up until I was about 19 I always looked behind the shower curtain when I would go to the bathroom. I always had this feeling that someone was back there and if I didn;t check I would be in the middle of peeing and be attacked by a knife welding psycho.
Oh, and Boogeyman, I hate ice in my drinks too-makes them taste watered down!

Ever since I watched that episode of Ghostbusters that had the Boogey in, I always have to have my closet door closed when I go to sleep. I always feel that it will become a door way to some sort of neither region if I leave it open.

I have a closet story. One of my friends was moving into a new house years ago. Anyway...because the electicity was metered the lights weren't working so we got together and plotted to play a joke on a mutual friend of ours. She asked him if he could help carry some boxes up to the house and put them in the room upstairs. The room had a closet.
Anyway...I had this full on creepy looking hooded cloak thing that I had just bought thinking that I could wear it to a Halloween party some time. It was kinda like the cloak that the killers wear in Scream. I also had a glow in the dark mask. It was like a really mangled demonic face.
So...I hide in the closet and wait for him to come upstairs with the boxes (to avoid accidents the boxes didn't contain anything too heavy or fragile...just magazine and books).
Anyway...i've been in the closet for perhaps ten minutes and I hear footsteps on the stairs. When he comes into the room I erupt from the cupboard wearing the cloak with the glowing mask on waving a toy knife that I borrowed from my little cousin.
My friend screamed like a girl (he was a guy) and ran out of the room, along the hall and locked himself in the toilet. As I walk down the hall towards the closed toilet door all I can hear is a voice from inside the toilet saying "Jesus Christ...Jesus Christ...Jesus fucking Christ..." over and over.
I don't think my friend recovered fully for a couple of hours. To this day it's still the worst fright he has ever had.
He found it hard to sleep in a room with a closet (open or shut) for a couple of weeks afterwards.
Funny shite.

I have trouble sleeping with the closet open, if it is ajar, i have to look inside to make sure it's empty, not only from people, but killer dolls as well. At least i'm not as obsessive compulsive as my brother who can't sleep when the tags on the sheets of his bed are at the head end (tag must be at foot of the bed!!!!).

Now I can go by more shoes!!!!!YaY!!!
(Ok, but I can't sleep without a fan or air-conditioner on, it's a noise thing.)

I feel sort of bad for your friend. Poor guy is probably sitting on a couch right now paying someone 100 dollars an hour trying to get through his traumatization. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Tonight at work one of the kids at the crisis center I work at was freaking out about a stuffed animal underneath a near by crib. he kept saying What is that? It looks like eyes and a mouth..Is it going to get me. I picked up th stuffed animal and showed it too him so he made sure to see that it was only a toy. Now That made me remember when i was a kid and objects in my room looked scary when the lights were out. My hamper looked like a giant mouth and there is no way in hell any unauthorized stuffed animals made their way into my room after lights out or I would run over and throw them in the closet or out my door if they were freaking me out due to my over active imagination combined with the darkness and shadows. Have you had any experiences with certain objects in your room that took on a much more eery presence when the lights went out?

Don't know about objects, but my sister, scary enough as she is, once freaked me out reeeell bad....
...I went to bed one night and was lying there about 10 minutes. I was almost asleep when i felt something under my back that started making me uncomfortable. Upon looking, nothing was there. Alright?!.. so i lay back down and shut my eyes again, and yet again, i felt something under me. But it was different this time, i actually felt it MOVE under me. Something was under my bed. I shit myself, i didn't know what to do, i sure as hell wasn't going to stick my head under. So, i jumped off and looked under from a distance, my sister crawled out and laughed hysterically. I should have smacked her one for that.

I prefer it to be open, i think the scary part is seeing the door opening and not knowing what is opening it. If its already open, you can see it straight away and its less of a shock..lol. Although when i was younger i used to close it, because i had a panda teddy bear in it and at night in the dark it looked like Michael Myers mask.
And anyway, of there something in there, im sure a door isnt going to stop it, not trying to worry you door closers out there or anything http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm actually just back from holiday. The upstairs room I was staying in in the cottage had a big cupboard with sliding doors. This didn't disturb me at all. What did disturb me was the existance of a smaller cupboard door in the wall to the right hand side of the inside of the cupboard. This door was locked and only came up to about chest height. Neither I nor my friends could work out any reason for having a locked cupboard door there because as best we could work out the wall it was set into was an exterior. Weird.
