Wes Craven is gonna remake Kairo ( a Japanese thriller / horror ) and Ring ( Nakata ) will be remade, too.
I think that you have to see the original - ones in OV and not just remake them to have a n American look !!
Imagine !! Argento being remade !! that's not possible !!!
Open Your Eyes is a lot better than Vanilla Sky for example !!
Please see the original - ones !! make this effort, be open - minded, please.

This is a terrible idea, having seen ring 1 and 2 recently, one of the biggesdt attractions of them was the fact they are in Japanese, it adds so much to the movie, and its a very minimal in the traditional american horror field. I worry hollywood is gonna add their own elements to this and ruin a classic

I can't honestly think of a single occassion when Hollywood remaking a movie of foreign origin has succeeded in producing something as good as the original never mind better. Open You Eyes is wonderful and I just can't imagine Vanilla Sky bettering it. The original version of The Vanishing was a masterpiece in sustained suspense and terror. The Hollywood remake fudged everything...especially the bleak and terrifying endind. Another less well known example is Nightwatch. The original movie was excellent and very creepy. The remake wasn't a total loss but it certainly didn't improve upon the original or anywhere near match it. Outside of the horror genre there are countless examples of directors making a complete arse of remaking foreign movies to suit the fucking idiots who refuse to give anything with subtitles the time of day. I'm not saying it's impossibe to do something interesting with a remake of Ring. I'm just saying it's unlikely given the evidence of the past. Time will tell.

News about the Ring remake has been around for a while. It'll be out in October. I am actually anticipating it. See how they treated one of my fave Japanese movies.

The Ring remake doesnt bother me at all simply because the "original" was based on a book and has been remade many times already overseas and even spawned TV shows.

I was only aware of the TV series. What are the other remakes?

A made-for-tv movie of the Ring novel came out before the Ring movie that everyone knows about. The MFTV movie is supposedly terrible and just full of nudity.
The Ring has only been remade once truly besides the upcoming American version. South Korea made their own version entitled Ring Virus. Other movies might have borrowed on the idea, but the Ring has not seen any other remakes.
The TV series (more than one, 3 at least) appeared before and after the first theatrical movie. The newer series had a cursed DVD instead of a video tape.
Edit: There's a Hong Kong version of the Ring called Dial D for Demons. Dunno if it's a true revamp, though.

"Planet Of The Apes"
"Lord Of The Rings"
"The Mummy Returns"
"Jurassic Park III"
"The Count Of Monte Cristo"
"Original Sin"
"Vanilla Sky"
"Spider Man"
"The Crow: Salvation"
"Moulin Rouge"
"Red Dragon"
"Insomnia"
"American Pie 2"
"Austin Powers 3"
"American Psycho 2"
"Highlander: Endgame"
"Charlie's Angels"
"The Hulk"
"Resident Evil"

Makes one wonder if Hollywood has finally run out of original ideas...

I couldn't agree more, I feel bad for the people who have not seen the original movie, a majority of remakes pretty much suck ass.
As far as Craven remaking Kairo this is the first of heard of it, maybe he should remake Shocker (snicker, snort).
For you guys who have not seen the originals head over the the Buy/Sell/Trade forum, I'm sure somebody can help you out! Hurry before hollywood fucks em up!
