I am a little irked. I have grown up with The Twilight Zone, the original ones, the ones that came out in the late 80's-Mid 90's. I will give the new ones that are coming to television soon a try simply because Twilight Zone has been a great show, they might have good writers on the new ones etc.
So a chance I will give it because Ive missed these shows from television dearly, weekend television sucks but oh did it ever rule in the 80's.

With the original ones you had a sophistication. You had the unforgetable host Rod with his fitting voice and presence guiding you through. There was an eerie elegance about it all, very smart.

Here is why I am irked and his name is Forrest Whitaker. Do not get me wrong, I know all about him and have seen quite a few of his movies, I have not a personal or political or race issue with this man. What I do not like is that he is going to host the new episods of The Twilight Zone.

I do not like it because from previews he is not dressed up there is not any flair or attraction quite frankly he looks like a big dressed down dope. He has not the unique feeling or flair. There is simply nothing eerie or any strength in his appearance. I mean he is supposed to represent the show correct? He is the host right so isnt there some responsibility to represent the show?

His style from the previews was so blah, gave you the impression they would hire anyone to do it. They could have picked a better host or simply stuck with a narrative point of view by someone with a voice that matched the show. Does anyone understand what I am trying to say and why I am irked? Like I said I will give the show a chance but I can not help the empty feeling in my gut that tells me that the host is all wrong and the feeling is all wrong and I am going to be let down.

I guess what I am trying to say is that old shows being remade or movies being remade they are not being remade with a respectable amount of care, they are just being made and pushed out for dollars and it is very sad, the beautiful original idea is practicly being spit on.

If something is made with effort and care and well thought about then that is true quality and that is what makes me happy as a consumer.

i am excited about it. For it to work the writing has to be good and hopefully some directors of the genre can contribute to the show.

I understand what ParileseMonster means, you want the host to match the show.

"Welcome to Masterpiece Theater I am your host Steven Seagal."

"Welcome to World News tonight I am your host Carot Top."

"Welcome to the Discovery channel special on brain surgury I am your host Britney Speers."

My first choice for host would have been Lance Henrickson. He would have been a perfect choice. My second choice would have been Clancy Brown, that voice. In spite of the odd host choice I will watch it. If it bombs out I will watch bird of Prey instead.

That's exactly what I mean Shadow. Lance would have been a better choice than Whitaker. Hell even Christopher Walken would have been better than him. Someone with a good voice and an eerie fitting presence and a better wardrobe. I hope they are good stories and I hope I can watch them because I miss good television on the weekends.
Without the original Twilight Zone we wouldnt have many of the horror movies that have come out. Most horror movies have been inspired by some of the original episodes. I love watching the old ones and making that connection.

Although I've liked Forest Whitaker in pretty much everything I've seen him in, I do agree that his passive style doesn't fit the Serling narration tradition of the ZONE. Christopher Walken would have been an awesome choice!

Oh well, let's hope the stories themselves (remakes or new) are powerful.

I think that Whitaker is the only person that they could find who is semi-famous to actually do it. The show will suck ass just like the shitty "New Twilight Zone" Episodes that were on Fox back in 1988. Lance or Walken have more important things to do than this crap, but at least they could have gotten someone who is better known for working in the horror genre.

ANd let me just add this is my opinion, I am not trying to piss anyone off or anything. I think it will suck howler monkey ass but I might be wrong. (I did think that Winger was going to be the next Beatles back in 1990, so I could be totally wrong and the new TZ series is the greatest thing since the creation of Mentos and Cool Ranch Doritos.)

The only host of a new Twilight Zone should be:

Christopher Walken http://216.40.201.38/contrib/dvv/eplus3.gif

I'm a little confused tho, someone mentioned "previews" ?? So this is in the can already? When and what channel does it premier?

I think Bruce Campbell or Tony Todd would be pretty good for the job.
