I have never really understood why or how people can actually become fans of the horror genre? Is it something deep seeded in you? Most horror films are bad, so what's the dealio?

P.S I know my name sounds like I should be a masked killer chasing everyone with wontons. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

It's been a deep rooted thing ever since I could remember, you know even back when I wasn't allowed to watch horror movies I would look at the backs, and fronts of the cases, and I always looked forward to halloween so I could watch the (sometimes) horror themed sitcoms.

Because even the worst horror film is 100000000000 times better than non horror films like Bubble Boy, Corky Romano, Blue Streak, Like Mike, Undercover Brother, Freddy Got Fingered, and any of that other garbage being shit out of Hollywood's asshole in recent years. Horror movies are a good escape for many fans of the genre, and besides that it is a person's right to be "fasintated" by horror films if they choose to be. Why did you even get on this site if you feel that most horror films are bad in the first place?

It's always the best feeling to be scared. Because it's hard to get that out of a person. Comedies, as much as I like them, can always get boring I think. You can't watch comedies over and over. You know the jokes and stuff. I dunno that's just what I think.

Horror movies are my favorite places for escapism. Watching brutal deaths and getting really scared makes me forget about my own problems for a while.

Also, I think, in a way it prepares me/us for our own deaths as well. But that's a whole another bag of beans.

Well I would have to say I see it as an escape. To be honest I am not at all violent and am probably one of the most harmless person u can meet. But everyone has that dark side to them that wants to rebel against their "good guy" image. Watching horror films are just a way of sitting back and going into fantasy land letting go of reality and relaxing. After all they are only films, films dont kill people. People kill people and anyone who claims to have murdered with inspiration from a horror film I strong;y believe was always going to kill anyway they just used a movie as an alibi. One of teh most hilarious examples I heard was that scream was banned in japan when it inspired some teens to copy it however scream had not been relased there so no one had seen it yet. Horror films dont make me violent at all. I have been watching them for years and have never raised a fist to anyone, if I ever did become violent (TRUST ME NOW I WONT EVER) it wouldnt be becasue of horror movies it would be becasue I had a serious problem with whoever it was I was after (films would not come into it). And as for your comment s about horror films being bad I think u will find that if u are not a fan u are obviously going to feel that way. I for instance hate Tom Green and Jackass I really find them irritatingly stupid and unfunny and talentless and giving a seriously bad messages to kids all round, yet however the fans adore them, same with horror films.
Horror films for me also do a great job of making people more aware of dangers.
My advice to you is look at horror as just a form of entertainment. They are only films and zillions of people love films.
