Feed it to shamu

Even the story is quite lame, an orca whale eating people because it is seeking revenge. This movie is bad on all levels. While you might find a scene or two worth watching, the rest of this movie should be thrown away, far away. There is no excitement, just lots of people getting eaten by a killer whale. If you want a really good movie about killer fish -yes, yes, i know, a whale isn't a fish- then go see Jaws or jaws 2

I dug this movie, myself. I think that it has irony, a great script, and decent character development. For those who have seen it, who is the protaganist? The man or the whale?

The whale, of course!!! Forget Free Willy, this killer whale steals the show!

Orca is one of the coolest ripoffs of the mother of all nature gone berserk "Jaws", of course its storyline is a little off with the vengeful whale eating people because some fisherman killed its female and baby (when I saw this movie I was a little kid and that scene made me cry like a school girl, Bambi anyone?) also I believe this was Bo Dereck's (10) film debut.
But I think it is worth it, I personally love this kind of movie when animals attack if you like it then you should try also "Piranha", "Tentacles" and most recent "Deep blue sea", not to mention the original Jaws 1 & 2 (3 and 4 sucked).

Actually I don't think the story was too off. There have been reports from real life "whalers", of Orcas following their ships after they have killed a mate/or family member. Orcas are very protective of their family. Of course the movie did take it to an extreme, but it was effective! I loved all the movies you listed Cesar!

I rented this movie when I was 6, and it was fucking terrible. And it's hard to not enjoy a horror movie when you're 6 years old, but that movie did it for me.

If you think about the literary standpoint (sorry, I am an English teacher), it is irony at work in the story. The fisherman's wife and unborn baby were killed by a drunk driver. The whale's mate and unborn pup were killed by the fisherman. In a way, the fisherman is to the whale what the drunk driver was to the fisherman. (Am I getting too deep?) ANywho, who is the protagonist? The fisherman, who is dealing with his family's death and accidently kills the whale's mate, or The whale, who is gaining revenge for the fisherman killing his family? Shit, I really need to get out more, huh? /ubb/smile.gif

DARK MINISTER, I am an English teacher as well, and tend to analyze the plot points of films I admire, especially in the horror genre!

Antonio:

Cool! I had no idea you taught English! Teaching school is scarier than most movies, huh? I am ready for a career change myself!

For what I have seen it was not bad.
No actions scenes, I mean it was just dialogues and atmosphere.

BUMP for the summer occasion of underwater thrill fests...

I liked it alot. It did take advantage of the Jaws craze, but it was an entirely different story, with great performances by Richard Harris , Charlotte Rampling and Will Sampson. And as another pointed out, Orca's ARE known to seek revenge on those who have harmed them or family...it's a fact.

For those members of the modern age who can't handle drama or character development, I'd say it's not for you, but to those who don't need thrill/kill/action scene after scene after scene, go for it.
