Abre Los Ojos ( Open Your Eyes ) from Amenabar is a psycholgical - thriller which kicks major ass, with a great ( sad ) ending.
The main character is really touching and the acting is really really good.
There was a lot of pathos in this film.
The Nameless is also very good but not for everyone because of the very somber tone throughout the entire movie.
The end is very very cruel, too.
The Others was outstanding but rather slow, the scary moments were really scary.
Dagon, Faust, etc ...

As it stands, my favorite Spanish horror film is The Devil's Backbone. The Blind Dead series is mostly laughable, but it's managed to attract a small following.

Spanish filmmakers generally rule in any genre! And I'm not saying that B/C of my heritage. Alejandro Amenabar and Guillermo Del Toro are my two favorite directors...I've recently seen OPEN YOUR EYES and THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE. Horror filmmaking at its best.
