Okay. I want to film a movie. Obviously I don't have a big budget but I need help. So if anyone knows anything about filmmaking or if anyone could direct me to any sites that could be of help with things like directorial tips or make up and special effects tricks (how to make realistic blood and gore etc)I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Specifically what kind of gore FX are you going for? I could help you with any info on makeup fx. I also have two friends who direct, I'd be happy to ask them whatever ??'s you have.

If I was writing a script for a horror movie with the intention of filming it i'd ensure that there were as few complex fx shots as possible (preferably none). Instead of trying to gross out the audience with a lot of sauce i'd try and scare the shit out of them with suggestion. Sound effects can be very effective if used well. If you want to see how effective a low budget movie can be with a good script and above average performances then check out the various Dogme movies that have been releases. Check out The Idiots by Lars Von Trier. Check out Festen by Thomas Vinterberg. Check out Julien Donkey Boy by Harmony Korine. I really believe that the methods used to get these movie on screen could be applied to a horror movie to great effect. Then again...maybe i'm talking pish and you should ignore me. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

As has been pointed out before, the first thing you need is a story. Then a script that tells that story. If you don't have a huge budget, I've worked with people who've filmed shorts on DV-cams (but, then, they borrowed the DV-cam from their parents). Think about where you want to use your budget (and there's a LOT to think about here); on equipment, FX, talent (ie, actors), etc...
I've been working in the film industry for awhile now, and my advice is: beg & borrow as much as you can. Write your script and get it down pat. Get talented friends to play the various parts (in exchange for a screen credit). The majority of your budget's going to go on equipment, so make sure it's good quality camera/s and lighting gear from a reputable supplier. Choose locations that cost nothing to shoot in.
And best of all, good luck. Let us know how the results turn out.
