I love it. Joe Spinell was very eerie and convincing. It has some great kills and has Tom Savini at his uncut best. He even makes a little cameo in the movie (interesting story actually...) I would like to see the sequel even though it has nothing to do with the original. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I love this movie too. It has a unique twist on the slasher genre, where the kilelr is the star. My favorite scene is the subway stalking. Very suspensful. Lustig paints a grim, dreadful picture. I like it.

I'm sorry but I cannot watch this thing without wanting to reach thru the screen and give Joe Spinnell my inhaler.

Good news for the UK???

FYI:
Maniac HAS been passed by BBFC, with cuts. They are relatively minor but will probably render bits of the film incomprehensible.

I'll probably see this version and decide based on that whether to buy it uncut.

I know that the song came after this movie, and some would probably say it clashes with the mood of the film, but Michael Sembello's "Maniac" song is one I would have liked to see in this. Either as the opening, or closing credits song, whenever I hear/listen to the song I think of this movie.

I just watched it for the first time. Man, that's one freaky, messed-up movie! The head-exploding scene-holy fuck! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/eek.gif

My favorite part: the subway stalk sequence. Intense.

Maniac is one of the few "true" horror movies of the 80s.
It's well made , grim, unflinching and it's even got Caroline Munro in it.
The Anchor Bay DVD is a must buy if you're serious about horror movies. It's a region 0 so will play on any machine .Any UK fans awaiting the region 2 don't bother it's heavily cut by about 53 seconds and as gorehounds all know that can mean a lot.

Let me put it this way: the movie hits you on a gut level. It doesn't matter whether you think it's good or not, you cannot ignore it.

I'm a big fan of this movie but the only thing that gets me is why in the hell would Caroline Munro charater be interested in that fat greasy bastard.

I suspect that Mr. Savini was waiting to depict himself onscreen ever since beginning his career. That scene must have been a wet dream come true.
