I've been debating with myself for the longest time whether to rent this or not. I've read scads of reviews condemning it absolutley, and scads of reviews saying it's not that bad. What do you guys have to say?

I like it. It is serious in a hilarious way. I did not like Trucks that was the way too serious version of Maximum Overdrive. Maximum is the best! The acting is pretty good and the AC/DC soundtrack throughout was great!!!

Maximum overdrive was nevr really one of my favorites, it's actually sort of dumb, but entertaining at the same time so I'd still say its a worthy entry, but dude don't pay attention to eviews, the only way ur gonna find out if u like something is if u check it out urself, u gotta have a mind of ur own because if iwent by ebert's gay ass reviews then i wouldn't have seen half of the movies that I consider my favorites.

For a PG-13 horror flick, it's actually a pretty damn good movie. I liked how the characters were all stuck together at the truck stop, and how they had to serve gas to all those damn trucks. Rent it renny,I know you'll enjoy it!

Hon, it's rated R, in fact they had to trim it to avoid an X!

go for it

if you like cheesy ass movies, you'll love it. Like mentioned before, it's not to be taken seriously

You see,I thought it was R but then I was thinking PG-13. So I didn't know to say R or PG-13,so I just went with PG-13,but I guess it's R!

Well I haven't seen it but I hear it's pretty bloody in parts, so I thought it'd be obvious it's an R, unless the MPAA cut it up worse than I thought!

Thanks a lot, guys, I was leaning toward taking the pluge anyway. Some parts like the Coke machine killing the Little League coach, sound awesome. I'll get it on a sale day, so I don't feel too ripped-off if I don't like it.

Go for it. It's in my collection, and if you're planning a brain-dead Saturday night cheese-fest with a huge bowl of popcorn, a six-pack and a few mates, this film should definitely be on the menu.

I'm pretty confident you'll enjoy it.

Should be appreciated as a good slice of cheese http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif. If you expect anything else then don't bother.

Stephen King said about his film that I would never direct another film because it was so bad.
However I don't think this film was that bad, there was an outstanding soundtrack, AC/DC, Highway To Hell, Hell's Bells, great songs !!
A kid is also killed in this flick in a gruesome way !!

I've read the short story "Trucks," upon which the film is based. It wasn't too bad, but I can't see why SK thought it could be put on film in the first place. He said he just wanted to make a junk movie, nothing more, but I think he had a total lapse of judgment.

Trucks sucks. Theres a completely stupid bit where a van fills a biosuit full of air makes it grab a machine gun???!! makes it walk and shoot at people which is too stupid for words. I agree with what everyone's said 'bout Max Overdrive. It's pretty fun, don't take it too serious. The likable characters make it watchable.

I just rented it for the first time tonight, what a dumb movie. Dumb, but sort of amusing if you're not in such a serious mood. I thought it was cool the way they used rockets to blow up the trucks, hehehe. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Not scary as such, but a really fun romp. Rates about half-way on my Cheese-O-Meter.

If you must have just one reason for watching this, it's my fave bit: when the greasy-haired trucker pops some coins into the drinks machine and doesn't get his drink. Annoyed, he slams the machine a few times. The machine delivers the tasty ice-cold can of soda for him...at maximum velocity, right into his balls. (Ouch.)

(Claw, good call on Graveyard Shift. I don't think it's King's best adaptation, but I love watching it.)

I love Maximum Overdrive. Definitely high up on my cheese list. Correct me if im wrong, but isnt Graveyard Shift about the rats? I liked that one also but can never remember the name.

Yes, Graveyard Shift's about a rat-infested Mill in New England with a "horrible secret" in its sub-basements. Cheesy film, but some great performances from Stephen Macht and Brad Dourif, and also features Andrew Divoff (The Wishmaster) in an early role.

It's been too long since I've seen Maximum Overdrive. It's definitely a fun flick that doesn't show restraint where grue is concerned. I caught the last hour of Graveyard Shift and enjoyed watching Divoff and Dourif, but nothing else really stood out. The bat-thing had a cool design, but it should've been in the limelight. What in the hell was it supposed to be anyway? Unless the first hour clarifies it for the viewer, I couldn't spot any explanations.

*Graveyard Shift SPOILERS*

I think the giant bat-creature was a horror monster tacked onto the plot by the film-makers coz they didn't think King's original story was scary enough to hold up a whole film (more fool them). The first half of the film doesn't help explain its existence any more than the rest of it does.

It's supposedly meant to be the great-granddaddy of all the rats. Why it has wings though, when it lives in subterranean tunnels, is still a mystery to me.

I'd say Maximum Overdrive is just as good a Saturday Night In as Graveyard Shift. Two perfect films if you want to host a "Cheesy King movies" fest.
