Paul Schrader to direct the Exorcist 4:1

The Hollywood Reporter reports Paul Schrader is in talks to direct the untitled prequel to the Exorcist, previously developing under the title the Exorcist 4:1.

Shooting on the prequel is expected to begin in the United Kingdom and Spain in November, with Gabriel Mann, Liam Neeson and Australian actor Billy Crawford starring.

The prequel deals with the early story of Father Merrin (Neeson) and his first encounter with the devil while doing missionary work in post-World War II.

Sounds like a good directorial choice. If he does as good as job on this project as he did on "Cat People", it won't be a half-bad flick.

Though, plot-wise, I'd have thought an Exorcist prequel might have covered the story the original film was based on, which took place in the early 40's and involved a little boy. They could have tied it into the house Regan and her mum were living in.
