Miami Vice - the movie May 9, 2002

Michael Mann is in such a funk after the complete collapse of ALI with critics and audiences that he's beginning to lose his fool mind. The man who's directed some of the greatest films around has, for some ungodly reason, decided to return to where it all started - Miami. That's right, Mann's jumping aboard the cheesy-TV-show-turned-movie bandwagon by adapting his "Miami Vice" into a film. Mann executive-produced the show (and if memory serves also directed a few episodes) and will now write and produce the film version. His decision whether or not to direct will be made once the script is finished. Other projects in consideration for Mann's next directorial job are GATES OF FIRE, an epic GLADIATOR like movie, and untitled sci-fi, western or spy films. The remake will, according to Variety, not look to recreate the iconic characters and fashion style in the show (DAMN!) but will simply borrow the general idea of the film.

I personally think that this idea is good and bad.

I personally would enjoy seeing Miami Vice return on the big screen. It sounds like a lot of fun. However, if they remade it to fit current times, it cannot and should not be considered Miami Vice. IMO, the absolute strength of the show is how it frames the 80's.

I totally agree. If they made it modern times it would have to somehow keep at least some of the kitchy stuff.

I loved this show. It was on when I was in high school and I would totally get a kick out of the movie.

My only hope is that the Miami Vice fashion doesn't come back in style http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

Nah I am sure the players would be young stud actors not Don "Nash" Johnson and the other dude who I cannot even remember, look for him hosting info-mrecials late night.

I agree this would not work if they modernized it as the whole point of it was the look and feel of Miami in the 80's.

They may have not realized they where setting trends but they did.

And I do not know how a retro piece would play today. I think the younger generation would just think it stupid and not get half the references.

But I am sure they will make it as that is what they do in Hollywood, make crap.
