I'm sorta like the Herbert West character at school, only knowing as much as horror movies than bringing the dead back to life. My friend Howard is like Dan Cain. With my letting him borrow horror movies(mostly 80's) on DVD, he's getting used to more of the films that I'm into. In time, he will know as much as I do of horror, especially since he's just found out about this site. There are a few students at my school who like older horror movies and my art teacher Mr. Q is a big horror, sci-fi, Godzilla/Gamera, Japan fantasy fan.

Do not worry friend for like us you are a NIGHTBREED and your sanctuary is here in MIDEON.
The dark is always present it is just hiding beneath the light.
Also whats wrong with horror I get more freaked out when I watch the news.
Don't worry spidey were there for you.

As you all know, I'm an English teacher, and I've been labeled a "heretic" (as I have taught in several Catholic schools), since I read R.L. Stine novels and short stories to my students! Go figure, since those particular titles are aimed at teens! There is such a lynch-mob mentality out there in the world, its a wonder that we're all still alive and kicking!

I go to a catholic high school( I'm not Catholic, but my parents prefered if I went there instead of public school) and I once got sent to the principal's office because I suggested our English class read I Know What You Did Last Summer. The principal(a nice guy) didn't care but I did get a reprimand from the teacher for advocating violent subject matter in school(her exact words by the way). Now if she would have actually read or done any research on the book she would have learned that it's more of a morality tale of the mistakes people can make and how it haunts them(something I think applies to everyone not just teenagers), but instead she chose to be a close minded bitch. Needless to say I switched English classes a week later.

PS - Antonio, why can't I have you for an English teacher?!!

Indeed... Damn their close minded totalitarian bullshit!

You know, It sound like hypocritical cognitive dissonance to me Antonio, They love pushing the Bible on children, which is infinitely more violent and terrifying than ANYTHING R.L. Stein ever wrote....

I love schmoes as well http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif.

You should have asked your English teacher if he/she had ever read Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus or Macbeth. Titus Andronicus especially is more violent than many of the horror novels i've read. Unremittingly brutal stuff.

I hate how many schools frown upon the horror genre as being unworthy of attention. I'm not suggesting that the books they do make you read are bad. I read The Catcher In The Rye and To Kill A Mockingbird while at school and they both remain two of the best books i've ever read. I am thankful. But I think that the best books of Ray Bradbury and Richard Matheson are equally worthy of praise and Stephen King's name is worthy of mention in the same breath as many American literary greats.

As for being called sick for liking horror movies. I've never been called sick but my colleagues at work think i'm a little odd. Nothing wrong there. I'm happy being a little odd. At least they don't think i'm boring.

Hey Antonio! Im on my second year in college, studying to be an English teacher myself! Why dont sudgest your students to read Edipus Rex? Heh, theres some fine reading for your catholic students... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Anyhows most of my coworkers think Im really messed up in the head for watching so many horror movies...but this is weird; my Boss Loves em! So its cool that I get to talk "Halloween Resurrection" and "Jason X" with somebody that shares the same excitement. He even loves Evil Dead!
So it IS cool to have other people who appreciate horror as much as we do. It would be interesting for all schmoes to meet somewhere.. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks for the votes of confidence, dudes.

As for the Lois Duncan novel "I Know What you Did Last Summer", the actual revenge scheme is played out very opposite from the movie bloodbath, plus the hit-and-run victim was different (and way more poignant in the novel), as were the suspects.

Some of my 6th graders this past week (we started early this year) are reading I KNOW... and KILLING MR. GRIFFIN and a few of the R.L. Stine novels for the Accelerated Reader program. So there is hope. Duncan's novels are morality tales, and have meaning, depth and fleshed-out characters. Stine's are pure fun.

The horror novels I read in the early 80's were way more graphic (including mucho violence, gore and sexual perversities) than any of the literature my students (all teens and tweens) read nowadays.

As for the works of Shakespeare everyone here mentioned (as well as Poe)...you are all totally right. Those sagas are way more violent and perverse than the likes of Stine and Duncan (and other modern-day horror authors). I mean, come on! ROMEO & JULIET is a glorified teen suicide story!

I am not tired of being called sick, cause following the regulated vision of a purist society is not my thing, I am sick and that's what they say. As Morbid Angel put it, blessed are the sick. There is no shame to have, I am a nihilistic character, nothing may make me range within the thin boundary of the so-called sane people.

Horror movies follow a particular path of living I have instigated throughtout my everyday life. I don't care others think it's wrong, it's one of the few genre in cinema that keeps a normal evolution, while the rest of the cinema just keep on doing the same garbage over and over again.

Hope I don't need to mention to you I am not in the same kind of mainstream horror cinema as you here.

I wish all of you lived in my neighborhood! NOBODY I know shares my passion for horror. They're hesitant to expand their imaginations. They'd rather take in the latest dramatic comedy. Blech! Who needs lackluster reality when you have vampires, werewolves, and zombies at your fingertips?????

Nobody doesn't call me sick for watching horror. Nobody really cares here what you watch. BTW, my friends used to think that slashers were the only kind of horror movies, but since I introduced them to my movie collection, they've been very eager to watch more and more horror. One of my friend said that I'm "a walking IMDb". http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Most of my friends accept that I love horror movies...alot of them like em to but not as much.
My family...they worry sometimes...I dont see whats a big deal. They just ignore me mostly and change the subject when I bring up horror movies, not all the time but...sometimes.
Thats why I love arrowinthehead! YOU GUYS ROCK!
