Compared to some other stuff I've seen, I don't think Event Horizon is mega-gory. It does have a rather high claret-factor, but I think the reason it's shied away from is because of its cast. Sam Neill, Laurence Fishburne and Joelly Richardson fans all flocked to see this film, only to be scared/grossed out by its high-extreme fright content.

this flick is directed by one of my favortie all time directors, paul anderson. ilove this movei nd everything about it. anderson like gore in his flicks so this movie has a high lood factor but no worse than other movies ive seen.

People who say that must have never seen "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" or "Hellraiser". too much gore in Event Horizon? What rock have these critics been living under?

I'm gonna shout this out one more time for the cheap seats...The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is NOT gory. There's hardly a drop of blood spilled in the movie. Event Horizon even though it's not particularly bloodthirsty is a gorefest compared to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Hellraiser is quite gory...probably about on par with Event Horizon. Now if you had held up Braindead (Dead Alive) or The Evil Dead as examples of movies that outgore Event Horizon you would have had a point. The reason why Event Horizon is considered such a gory movie is because Paul Anderson succeeded in tricking the audience into thinking they had seen much more than they actually had. The almost subliminal flashes during the playback of the video showing the crews fate was very cleverly edited. It was a very good movie and scared the bejeezus out of me in the cinema. No mean feat.

Event Horizon might be considered too gory because the gorest parts are slapped on top of the scariest parts makes for double intensity. Normally if the gore is in a low intense scene its not as hard to swallow. But Horizon scares you the shows you sick gore!!!, 1,2, punch=KO, good movie, good sci-fi too.
