This is probably not near the truth, but the ones I've liked so far (in no particular order) are:

Dawn Of The Dead
Halloween
The Shining
Salem's Lot
The Omen
Exorcist
Pet Sematary
Evil Dead Trilogy
Interview With The Vampire

I know I haven't added Scream or IKWYDLS, but if I had to choose one of the two it would have to be IKWYDLS, although Scream made me jump once. As for Halloween H20, I'm still disappointed with 'you.'

I'll be available in the foyer for a good flogging if you don't happen to agree =)

Re: PackBacker

Bram Stoker's Dracula sits in my video collection, untouched for a year or so by now. Despite its bad reviews I liked it a lot. I admired its angle and the way it was presented, especially the whole section where Vlad is in battle with his men.

Keanu Reeve's acting was a little below his usual standards for that movie and I think that may have been one of the only real flaws I could find. Other than that, if you put such a great cast together like that, you can't really go wrong. The original book was followed reasonably and overall I enjoyed it a lot. For some reason though, it's not for me a movie that I could watch again and again. It's one of those keepers for when you fancy seeing it again.

From Dusk Till Dawn was a good vampire movie, and Rodriguez's style goes down well. I just want them to make more vampire movies. I grew up with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing double bills and another movie doesn't bother me in the least. There's always something new in every progressive vamp movie.

I haven't seen the independent vamp movie 'Razor Blade Smile.' I was wondering if any of you fans out there had seen this. It's intriguing but looks like something out of my league, heheh.

There's also a new movie being made starring Tom Savini, who also will do the make-up/effects called 'Vampirates.' That looks like it might be interesting. I'm currently trying to write a new vampire movie. I think that if you have a storyline somewhere in between the battlefield scenes in Bram Stoker's Dracula you can't go wrong. Sprinkle a little bit of the ol' fantasy salt on that and pitch it to the good folk at New line.

Shining
Rosemary's Baby
Blair Witch Project

... And that's about it. I don't know how you define a horror movie. I think if it lacks a supernatural element, it's a thriller. Seven is scary as hell, but I wouldn't call it a horror movie. Oh, and I
haven't seen The Exorcist yet...

I have one question..

What is Nosferatu? I've never seen or heard of this.

The one I am familiar with is a 1922 vampire flick from Germany (?). Max Schreck plays one freaky head vampire. Well worth checking out.

Scream...*yawn*
its not a horror movie...its more of a spoof on the genre of horror films...it doesnt take itself serious..more jokes than anything..wake up teenyboppers!!!
it amazes me that Salem's Lot is on some lists...great choice!
how about the first Hellraiser film? I think it should make the 10..remove Scream and put it on there!

Hi, I am interested in the orional movie, "The Haunting." I saw the remake, and it was stupid. Could someone tell me more about the origonal one? Is That one any good?

PackBacker
07-25-2000, 11:00 PM
Jessica--- the original "The Haunting" was excellent. It was a psychological horror film. That's why those of us who loved the first one hated the second one so much. The second one was a special effects nightmare that left nothing to the imagination while the original let you do the thinking and let you scare yourself. Nothing is black and white (except the actual film print)....you get to decide what's real and what's not.

Hey ammoniaboy, scream is hell of a lot better than 99% of the shitty horror movies out there. It was very well written and, smart, and funny. It might not be true horror but is still my fav. Oh yea it's not a teeny bopper movie, those are the ones with Freddie Prinze Jr in them.

Hey screamer, good list except for #'s 1,3,5,9,10...Hey, wait a sec. Maybe it wasn't a good list. Try not to have so many crappy horror sequels(#3,5,9). Halloween H2O better than the original? Homey don't play that. Try renting such movies as The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Psycho, The Shining, The Haunting(the original), Pet Sematary(if you are going to put a crappy King flick, put this one on there instead of COTC), Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Any of these should be on your list instead of the crap you listed(except for Silence of the Lambs, I completely forgot about that one.)

The Omen.

Because of this movie, one day when I have a kid, a part of me is gonna always wonder if it's really Satan's child and not mine. That eventually would drive me nuts and I'd have to shave my son's (or daughter's) head to see if there's a 666 symbol; then they'd take me away to the mental hospital.

It would be worth it though, to find out.

The Omen.
