Ok all you die hard horror fans... we've seen the movies hundreds of times... but one monster, serial killer, or your worst nightmare come to life from the pits of hell, has got ya hooked, and you have to say that they are your favorite of all time. Whether they have used a chainsaw, butcher knife, or steel knives on a bloody soaked hand... whether they invaded the dreams of there innocent victims or just scared them to death with their reality, we all have a favorite. My favorite of all time would be

PINHEAD- Hellraiser

He's worse than evil, he is hell's angel without mercy. He will torture those who choose to enter hell's gates without an invitation. He is death, he is misery, he is pain. And he scares the hell out of me. His henchmen are the cenobites, unfortunate souls that have crossed his path at one time or another, now destined to put fear in hearts of those who don't believe that evil exists, and they convert them to believers.

It all depends on two fields, human horror and supernatural. In that case, I've narrowed the field down to two:

Hannibal Lecter, "The Silence of the Lambs" - The scariest human character ever, plain and simple. His charm allows him to enter high society and it's frightening to think such an odd little fellow is a cannibal. No matter how hard you try, Lecter will worm his way into your mind and twist it to his liking.

The Tall Man, "Phantasm" - No supernatural figure is more fearsome than the Tall Man. Perhaps Regan McNeil is scarier, but the Tall Man remains unabashed in saying that no matter where you turn, he'll always be there, including in your dreams, just like Freddy Krueger, only scarier.

Any thoughts?

My all-time favorite would have to be the "maniac" Frank Zito in William Lustig's ("Vigilante", "Maniac Cop") film "Maniac"...

I like him so much probably because I like the actor who portrays him, Joe Spinell ("Taxi Driver", "Rocky", "The Godfather" Parts I & II)...you may remember him in his most famous role as Willi Cicci, Frank Pentangeli's bodyguard, in "The Godfather" parts I & II...

Here is what The Arrow had to say...

"Joe Spinell (Frank) gives a tour the force performance. There was no doubt in
my mind that this man was a lunatic. I even sometimes (I say sometimes)
felt sorry for his character. Making me feel sorry for that piece of shit takes
some major acting chops and Spinell delivered. He carries the movie on his
back (he also co-wrote it…were you acting Spinell???)"

I totally agree...while the film is probably not the best ever made, Spinell pulls off one of the greatest performances I have ever seen...

This is a great idea, thanks Kerryanne.

Also, I'm going to make my 3 favorite human and 3 favorite supernatural villians/killers.

Human: John Doe(Seven)-the worst kind of twisted evil that could happen among an intelligent man.

Billy Loomis(Scream)- the worst kind of twister evil that could happen among a wild youth who also has an insane imagination.

Leatherface(TCM)- I haven't seen the sequels but this is one evil dude. He was inspired by a real serial killer named Ed Gain(Sorry about mispelling it) and he inspired Jason, Hannibal Lecter, and just about any horror film character and director of the last 25 years.

Supernatural: Count Dracula(Dracula)- Lust, Greed, Power, and EVIL. He has it all and he wants your soul.

AlGORE(The Recount)- The jury is still out on whether he's supernatural or not.

Freddy Krueger(Nightmare)- "One two, Freddy's coming for you,..three four better lock the door..."

after having watched Phantasm tonight (2nd viewing). I really would have to say that "The Tall Man", (Angus Scrimm), is one of the coolest horror movie characters.

Coolest supernatural villain: Severen from "Near Dark." If I were a vamp, I'd be him. Lestat's cool, but I think ole Sev would probably kick his ass.

Scariest supernatural villain: This may sound strange, but the ghost twins from "The Shining." I can be watching that movie in the middle of the afternoon with a room full of people, and when Danny turns that corner on his bigwheel and finds them standing there at the end of the hall, a shiver literally goes up my spine every time. They just look so *wrong*! Kudos to Kubrick for knowing how to film a ghost.

Coolest human villain: Herbert West from "Re-Animator." Okay, Dr. Hill is the real villain I guess, but West is a hero only by default. If I were going to be a geeky genius obsessed with conquering death, I'd be him.

Scariest human villain: This was the toughest one to decide, so I'll cheat and make it a tie: Patrick Bateman from "American Psycho" and Henry from "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" (natch). They are the most accurate and realistic portrayals of psychotics I've ever seen in a movie. Merciless and remorseless, how could you possibly protect yourself from someone like Bateman or Henry? They could literally be living next door to you right now and you'd never know it. (Although I have been keeping an eye on my neighbor lately. /ubb/wink.gif) Worse, they could be living *inside* you, like Mr. Hyde just waiting for Dr. Jekyll to open the door and let him out. A total loss of self-control; if that ain't a terrifying thought, I don't know what is.
