While Jason looked kinda cool in F13part8, the movie lacked in plot, directing etc.

I go for plot and directing. I loved the crow and candyman for that reason. Pumpkinhead was really well made, but the begining was too slow. Don't get me wrong, I loved that movie.
what are yours?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre...no doubt the best plot, best villain(s),and best overall feel..

you cant get any better than a WHOLE family of crazy ass cannibal rednecks who HUNT down, kill and EAT their victims...its great!!!

second has to be Halloween..AWESOME villain, solid storyline, and great acting...very nice feel to the movie..VERY eerie music as well..

Loved T.C.M. saw it when I was 25 or so and it scared the living shit out me. Other great scary flicks include any thing by Dario Argento and Crawlspace starring Klaus Kinski as the villian.

First and foremost in a horror movie I look for surrealism. What is truly horrifying is the ability to subvert normality, in a way that can be both wildy funny and terrifying in equal measures.
For me, The Wicker Man was such a movie. the remote island setting was a perfect foil fort he plot of strange pagan rituals and sacrifice.
Sometimes, when I watch this movie with agroup of friends it can be uproariously funny and surreal, yet when I watch it by myself, it becomes altogether darker

"The Wicker Man" is a great movie. It deserves more attention than it gets.

My favorite is "Alien." First, I am a sucker for monsters, and the Alien is one of the greatest on celluloid. Second, I love atmosphere. Third, a movie that energizes my imagination always keeps me coming back. I've seen "Alien" more times than any other movie, except "Aliens." Forth, I love a mystery. I know the Alien's life cycle was detailed and explanded in the sequels, but I can still watch the first movie and relive the mystery. The creature is almost a supernatural force, sort of like a physical manifestation of the unknown. And even with the sequels, the origin and nature of the Space Jockey, and its connection with the Alien itself, still remains unsolved. (Until I get done writing "Alien 5," that is.)

Nowadays with horror movies becoming so commercial and redundant the only thing I really look for is Originality. Which is becoming pretty scarce, Hollow man was a good recent one. I still think the 80's were the golden years of horror. It wont get that good again for horror flicks. American Psycho was definetly the best horror movie of 2000 in my opinion, and it was even based on the late eighties. Halloween is my fav of all time hellraiser and Pumpkinhead were both highly original and effective.

The Wicker man is a very good film deserving more attention than it gets, very original. One note however, people were not burned alive at Celtic wicker man ceremonies or any other Celtic ceremonies. That was all Roman propaganda, it makes for a dramatic ending though.

My favorite horror film, ever, is the first "Blair Witch", because instead of showing senseless T&A (not neccessarily a BAD thing...) accompanied by a chainsaw murderer wearing a lacrosse mask, it showed real fear and real horror: being lost in the woods with some freaky shite going on all around you.

In Alien you get a monstrous, predatory creature AND Sigourney Weaver stripping down to her underwear to fight it. Monsters and nearly naked chicks. It doesn't get any better than that. Gillian Anderson should follow her example.

my favorite movie is THE THING with kurt russel. This movie scared the shit out of me when I was a little one, and it still amuses me today. I hear they are making a sequel to this which would make my millenium, so if anyone knows anything let me know..I know they came out with comics for the sequel from darkhorse and they're awesome.
