I don't get the comparison. Most of Kings novels have been transitioned to the big screen by someone other than himself. To my knowledge Craven doesn't write many books....where is the comparison?

If Steven King made movies. They would be really wierd and long. It would just suck! So 1 Wes Craven vote here!

Yeah, I don't get the comparison either. Craven has written one novel, which I haven't read yet, and King has directed one movie, which, while absolutely terrible, was kind of fun. On that level, sure, Craven's definitely a better director. But normally they work in completely different mediums. I suppose I like King's novels better than Craven's movies, but that's like saying I like chicken better than grapefruit juice.

In my opinion Wes Craven is overrated. Apart from the first Nightmare and Scream his movies are mostly average. Wes Craven has also expressed his hate of horror in many interviews and that pisses me off. If you hate the genre stop working in it.

A true horror director would have to be John Carpenter. He loves the genre and still hasn't gotten the respect he deserves. Even his weaker (Prince Of Darkness, Vampires) movies are better than half the shite out there.

John Carpenter kicks Craven's arse any day...too bad he's underrated.

As for Stephen King...Maximum Overdrive was THE cheese flick for the 80's...I had a blast! But he's no director...he should stick to books.

I would have to agree with Arrow about Carpenter kicking Craven's arse. King is king in his domain, and Carpenter is king of his domain. They should both stick to what they do best. King is an EXCELLENT writer, and Carpenter is a great director... some of King's movies are fantastic movies, but alot of the made for movies just plain suck.

King's books are good, but when they get turned into movies, they just seem to suck. Except for GREEN MILE (Which isn't horror I know) and NEEDFUL THINGS. So I have to say Wes Craven.

In his book "Danse Macabre" King expresses that he doesn't like Craven's Movies at all. I don't think that you can compare the two either. It's been quite a long time since I heard one of King's recent novels would be going to Film. I'd love to see a movie adaption for "Desperation" though, since I thought the Book kicked ass.

has Wes Craven ever directed a Stephen King novel movie?? cos i cant think of any. i think ive seen stephen kings movie- is it the one with the trucks and the diner? some one help me out here or it will bug me forever!!!!

out of wes craven and stephen king... stephen king has a godly status in my eyes, when it comes to books, where as wes craven is not the god of all directors! so id say King is better!

fave director- i have to say Alfred Hitchcock can do no wrong!!! but i agree with The Arrow- except for a few sucky recent ones John Carpenter has always been amazing!!!

Yeah, Stephen King wrote and directed "Maximum Overdrive" which is about the sentient trucks stalking the people in the diner. This should not be confused with "Trucks," which is a made for TV movie that is based on the same SK short story as "Max Overdrive." While both might be considered "bad," "Trucks" is unremittingly dull, while "Max Overdrive" is hilarious (intentionally and unintentionally) and scads of fun.
