Crazy Ol' Loomis

OK, now a True horror movie would never be complete without a chase scene. Now, I think it has to be "THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE" The forrest chase AND the *It's light outside* chase!!!
What do you think?

Freddy pursuing his victims through the boiler room in the first "Elm Street", and the Tall Man chasing Mike near the end of "Phantasm".
i will have to go with the chase between "The Tall Man" and Mike in Phantasm, like Adam J. Hikari said. It just doesn't get any better than that. "Boyyyy" - hahaha

The entire movie "Duel" is one of the best, not to mention longest, chase senes ever filmed.

Yeah, I love how the trailer for Halloween showed that part, which made people want to see if she gets away or not.

Agreeing with BryBry, the best chase scene is in the first HALLOWEEN movie, when Laurie (JLC) runs from Lindsey's house (after discovering the bodies of her three friends) back to Tommy's house, and realizes that she's forgotten or lost her keys (with Michael Myers in hot pursuit, of course!)

Not exactly a horror film but man is the foot chase in Seven is great as is the chase in Marathon Man. "Is it safe?" "F$@$ NO!"
Horror wise I always dug the ALIEN TRILOGY for chase scenes, so much tension & the rewards when the prey is caught is guaranteed to be bloody & original.
Have to also mention Richard Dreyfuss eluding JAWS once he has eaten the cage.
Although a comedy the first time I saw the subway chase in AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON I got chills, great camera angles & great choice of sounds.
Definetly agree with all those mentioned... Halloween got me bad when I was a kid, John Carpenter knows horror & certainly Hitchcock.

Here is a list of some great chase scenes:
1.HALLOWEEN - The scene y'all mentioned. Obvious winner.
2.PHANTASM - The chase with the Tall Man and Mike "You play a good game boy..."
3.SEASON OF THE WITCH - The start with the robots chasing that dude. This is a personal favourite as you have no clue what's goin on but with CARPENTER'S excellent score it is so TENSE!
HONOURABLE MENTIONS
DEMONS + DEMONS 2 - Random chase scenes are quite exciting
TOURIST TRAP - Mr Slausen chasing the surviving girl through the woods.Quite good.

I just thought of another.
The scene in CLOWNHOUSE where Casey and Randy are walking Old John's road late to get to Pettrie's (convenience store) and Randy starts to run cos it's gonna close in a few minutes.Casey doesn't want to but he keeps looking back cos he thinks the clowns are there, so he gives chase. But so do the clowns!Intense!
On the way back also, when Randy (who didn't believe the clowns were chasing Casey) walks on whilst Casey stops to do his shoelace.A shadow emerges on Caseys' hand and he looks up to see the main clown standing there in the darkness, with just a shimmer of light. The clown waves and starts to run after Casey! Those scenes are well intense!

This a great topic. Some of my fav's include:
1. Clarice Starling and Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs
2. Michael Myers and Laurie Strode in Halloween
3. The "oh my God, what the F**k is that," scene in Blairwitch.
4. Sidney Prescott and Ghostface in the sheriff's blazer til she reaches Stu's house, in Scream.
5. Halloween 6, Laurie's daughter, I think is chased into a barn hiding from Michael, attempting to save her own child.
6. Boiler room in 1st Elm St.
7. Ms. Vorhees and hitchhiking girl (first death in Friday the 13th.)

In general, I dig how in every zombie film you have people "trying" to get away from zombies...I mean, how hard is it? Zombies generally chase them down by shuffling their feet or taking retarded Frankenstein-style steps...Zombies aren't exactly Michael Johnson/Olympic Athletes if you catch my drift...although they do get where they wanna go sooner or later...even if it takes them all night...

Two great chases in two "Omen" flicks: in the first one, when David Warner and Gregory Peck are running away from the dogs, and in "The Final Conflict", when the two monks try to corner Sam Neill on the bridge; nice try, fellas.

I've always loved when SMG was chased in IKWYDLS...It had tons of suspense and action, plus a nice minor death in between. Also in the sequel w/Brandy & Ben Willis when they fall through the roof onto the bed and she rolls over him and hops off the balcony just missing getting hooked...SCREAM, when Sid gets her 1st call and thinks it's Randy and then the killer makes some comment about her mother..she runs in, closes the door(witht he closet door still in the frame)..then..Bam! Door opens Ghostface lunges out just almost slicing her, then the fight and she runs up the stairs to her bedroom...Those are some to name a few

Loved the end in Phantasm. Almost all of the chase Scenes in the first two Halloweens were good. I have a soft spot for the ones in 2, however, where jamie Lee is franticly trying to run faster while Michael is just taking his time and knowing he will get her eventually. I also liked the part where he walked through the glass door in the hospital, cool stuff.

I don't really know if The Hidden can be called a horror film, even though they did steal the plot for Jason Goes To Hell:The Final Friday, but the car chase scene in the begining of that film was by far one of the best chases ever caught on tape. It had a John Carpenter feel, which really didn't hurt the scene either. Second place would go to the chase scene in the first story of Body Bags, as John Carradine was a raving loonatic that could only be toughed by Michael Myers!!!! HE WAS AWESOME!!! A facelift from Revenge Of The Nerds. Why doesn't he do more horror?

Here's a list of my top five chase sequences:
1) Texas Chainsaw Massacre - I totally agree with Crazy Ol' Loomis. At the end where the main girl is running from Leatherface is classic. It's just so realistic it's shocking, although the fact that a good portion of the blood on the girl is real does help support that.
2) Halloween - At the end of the movie, when Michael is right on Laurie's heels, it is so suspensful I can hardly describe it.
3) A Nightmare On Elm Street - The boiler room scene is pure brilliance.
4) The Silence of the Lambs - Watching Buffalo Bill creep up on Jodie Foster in the Dark had me convinced he was going to kill her.
5) Halloween II - I know no one even for a second thought that Michael was going to kill Laurie, but this chase scene just rocks. The whole thing consists of Michael getting shot in the eyes, Loomis getting set on fire, and Myer's famous head twist. Gotta Love it.
Ok, I have a few...
What Lies Beneath: God, the last half an hour was so tense. With Michelle Pfeifer running from _______ ? (I don't want to say because I don't want to give it away for people who haven't seen it). Anyway, that was really tense. And you know whats funny, you can almost predict whats going to happen but you get scared anyway and then you feel so stupid for getting scared. It's the music that gives it the final touches to make it scary. But hey, why watch a horror movie if you don't want get scared, that's part of the fun...
2: I know what you did last summer:
I loved the chase scene when Sarah Michelle Gellar was getting chased by the killer. I mean, it didn't give me nightmares or anything but it was cool...
3: SCREAM
The whole begining was really tense the first time you watch it. I remember the first time I watched it was the exact day it came out on video and I was home alone and it was night time and all the lights were out. Then the phone kept ringing. It was my sister every time and I told her to stop calling because I jumped whenever the phone rang. Anyway, the whole begining of SCREAM made me tense. But after seeing it a million times it's not scary AT ALL. But the first time you watch it, it's very scary...
I also thought the chase in the first HALLOWEEN was very tense and scary, I kept yelling at the screen at the kids to open the door... I also thought that the scene in SCREAM 2 where they were in the car was pretty tense, not a chase scene, but worth mentioning...

I'd have to say Brandy's chase scene in ISKWYDLS?! Run Moesha! Sike...
I think everybody above had most of my fave's. I LOVE Sally's chase through the woods in Texas Chainsaw. The brush was so thick, you felt like you were right there with her, getting your bellbottoms caught on the briar.
I think Amy Steel had some good chase action going on in the second Friday the 13th.
i'd like to take a moment for Amy.....the goddess of 80's slasherdom.
Last, but not least, although I'm not a big fan of the overall movie, there was a good chase scene in Tobe Hooper's Eaten Alive, as he ran through the Florida Everglade swinging a big ass scythe and feeding his 'gator, looking like Charles Manson.

These are my favorite chase sceens.
1. Chase threw the brush and the house in Texas Chainsaw
2. The last chase seen in Texas Chainsaw
3. The Chase in Halloween 1
4. The Chase in Halloween 2
5. The Chase in Jason 2 to his shack.

The best chase scenes in my opinion are right below, in no particular order...
-Laurie-The whole ending in HALLOWEEN
-Jody-Through school in CHERRY FALLS
-Helen-I Know What You Did Last Summer
-Jess-Ending of BLACK CHRISTMAS
-Neve Campbell-Through stab 3 set in SCREAM 3
Ok, I said a couple earlier but their were a few I forgot too. Here they are:
1: Sasha (Tara Ried) in Urban Legend...
This chase scene just rocked, I'm sure others would disagree but I know quite a few people who also liked this chase scene... It totally rocked...
2: Jody (Brittany Murphy) in CHERRY FALLS...
This was another good chase scene but I didn't get scared at all, I don't get scared too easy... Other than that it was cool...
that's all of the new ones I can think of besides the ones I posted earlier...

For me it would have to be these three...
1. Mute Witness- The chase scene in that was the ultimate as the mute FX artist stumbles upon a snuff film then runs for her life through a German movie studio.
2. Halloween II- The entire chase scene between Lori and Micheal Meyers. The whole hospital was their playground.
3. Scream 3- Sidney running from Ghostface through the Stab 3 set was rather hype.

i have to agree with the night watchman about Duel, that movie is one long paranoia trip and the chases in it are spectacular...that truck driver is so creepy... and the fact u never see his face only makes it more scary!!!
Weapon X

A couple good ones that come to mind...
ALIENS -
The scene where Ripley and Newt are running their @$$es off from the massively-pissed off Queen. Then they get to the top of the platform where the ship should be, but isn't, then the other elevator door opens, and GUESS WHO'S THERE!?
ALIEN 3 -
The part where they were leading the alien into the lead vat was kool, and the Alien POVs were a nice touch. I also thought when that one door was shut, the alien rams into it, and the poor schmuck on the other side so comically calls out, "THIS THING IS REALLY PISSED OFF!"
PITCH BLACK -
That part where they were running toward the colony ship in the dark with all the glowing power cells and stuff, and meanwhile, the aliens are swarming around them. It was also cool when they were going through the canyon while all the monters are flying overhead killing each other.

Best chase scene is in Evil Dead 2 where the spirit chases Ash through the woods, and then into the house. I loved it.

Oh, COME ON GUYS!!!! I can't believe I'm the first to mention the hedge maze scene at the end of The Shining!!! "Dann-EE!! Danny BOY!!" Nicholson looked like a friggin' animal, and when I first saw this film at age 11, I about crapped my pants.
I've also gotta second the vote for Mute Witness. Seldom seen film, very intense. I highly recommend it.

I totally agree, HALENITE...the chase sequence in the snowy hedge maze in the finale of THE SHINING is classic! And Danny Lloyd, a mere child, proved much more resourceful than most teen or adult characters, as he backtracked on his footprints to confuse his possessed father (JACK).

1. Halloween - The Shape chases Laurie across the street, up the stairs, through the closet...and if it wasn't for Loomis, he would've got her, too!
2. Phantasm - The Tall Man chasing Mike.
3. Halloween 4 - C'mon, guys....how can you not mention the rooftop sequence?! It was great! The truck finale was great, too, but I don't really call it a "chase" scene.
4. Halloween II - Just after The Shape kills Nurse Jill. My favorite theme from the series kicks up; "The Shape Stalks," and Laurie is forced to bolt. That, and the operating room fiasco, climaxing with "It's time, Michael."
5. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter - Jason chasing Tommy's sister through the whole fucking area, then being outsmarted by Tommy. I loved the point where Tommy was on one side of him, his sister to the other, and Jason was forced to choose which to go after.
