I have 3 favorite OLD horror movies: the first one is of course Dracula (guilty pleasure.) I rent it every once and while just so I can see the bats on the strings... But another good one is the Pit and the Pendulum... with Vincent Price---- Classic. Then there is Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte... with Betty Davis...still not as scary as being ten and sneaking out to watch the Exorcist but still... This is where it all started.

Dracula, the Wolfman, and Frankenstein were my favorite old horror movies.

Vincent Price was great. Maybe even the king of horror. Hmmm...if you liked Dracula then you'll like Nosferatu. That movie is pretty old as well. Maybe even the best Vampire movie. EVER.

Kerryanne its not hard to find around here. Umm...I go to Hollywod Video. They have an excellent selection but thats over here in Vegas so I don't know where you're coming from. Try those small chain video stores. You know the ones that are less mainstream to the public. I want to say Blockbuster but I honestly never seen Nosferatu there.

"Masque of the Red Death" is my favorite Corman/Poe/Price flick. I'd say it's one of the all-time greatest horror movies ever made.

Another great old one (in-joke for fellow Lovecraft freaks) is "Night of the Demon" (aka "Curse of the Demon"). Based on M.R. James' short story "Casting the Runes."

"Black Sunday" is great, but "Black Sabbath" is probably my favorite Bava.

Loved Vincent Price in both his "Dr. Phibes" movies, the original Haunting, The Changeling (70s - 80's is old, right?), most of Hammer's Dracula and Frankenstein movies, PSYCHO of course, Vertigo, the Birds, etc. JAWS (maybe not horror, but still good, heh).

The "Dr. Phibes" series are one of the most underrated horror film series ever...they are great stuff...

I just watched Hammer Films "The Satanic Rites Of Dracula" last night again and it is another amazing classic horror flick...

Also, check out Hammer's "Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires" if you get a chance. I dig it, and Rob Zombie recently said it was one of his favorite horror flicks of all time...citing Peter Cushing's performance in it...

hmm....good question. id choose Psycho, for its pure scarieness and it is a classic- or Duel, for the paranoia trip it takes you on!!!!!

Night Of The Living Dead, no contest. Although not as old as some mentioned above, it's still not very young. Took the horror genre to a new level.

THE GOLDEN OLDIES OF HORROR

1. Dracula (1931) Directed by Tod Browning (B+)
2. Frankenstein (1931) James Whale (B+)
3. The Bride Of Frankenstein (1935) James Whale (B+)
4. Cat People (1942) Jacques Tourneur (B+)
5. The Wolf Man (1941) George Waggner (B)

These five films, as well as the combined talents of their underrated directors, classy casts (Lugosi, Karloff and Chaney rule!) and atmospheric black-and-white visuals, are the gems of yesteryear. They were the predecessors of Hitchcock, Hammer horror and everything else that followed.

White Zombie

It is a strange movie, boring at times, but I always loved the band so I watched it. I had to say I was impressed with it on many aspects of the film.

I would say M The Cursed from Fritz Lang but it is not an horror movie, it is more a thriller.
this film is a pure masterpiece, see Metroplois, too but the films I have mentioned are really old.
Most of the Hammer movies with Cushing and the director Terence Fisher.
great films.
let's not forget Psycho.
