The first Mummy grossed about 155 million at the american box office.Do you think the sequel will do better or not ?
Personally I think it will gross more then 200 million, because this time they could work with a bigger budget so that automatically means cooler SFX and magnificent action scenes. Also The mummy returns has no competition when it will be released.Anyway, I'm gonna watch this flic and I you know guys will too.Or I am wrong ?

The movie will be huge...The first one was a surprise flick...I thought I'd hate it...I enjoyed it and so did a lot of people. Now with the Rock added...you are going to have all the wrestling fans coming to check this out too. Easily opening to $30 million.

I also think that it will go over 200 million.
i think that the mummy returns will make more than the mummy(which ruled)but i don't think it will make 200m. why? because sequels usualyy open big and fall fast, and because this summer is packed with movies.

I think that they will both suck. the first one was so cheesy and bad.
I think The Mummy Returns will make a lot of money, but counting on what's coming this way in the summer too, it will get slashed all over.
I think THE MUMMY RETURNS will make more than the first one... I think it will do better opening weekend and will just end up making more... It looks really cool. I think it's possible for it to eventually take in 200 million, maybe more or maybe less... Most likely it will make at least 200 million or damn close...
Although ILM has done the CGI for the film, i really think the shots of the Mummy's running across that building looks pathetic.

It will have an opening of $35 million give or take despite the bad reviews it's getting.

Well, it's on a lot of screen ...
Here is the number of screens for the 3 biggest theaters (megaplex) in Montreal ;
AMC ............. = 8 screens /22
Cineplex Odeon = 4 screens /17
Famous Players = 4 screens /~15
8 screens !!!!

I think it will be a box-office success; the target demographic (12-year olds) doesn't care what critics say anyway. /ubb/smile.gif

"The Mummy" was a great film,so I think it could make millons at the box office. I really don't think "The Rock" is a very good actor, WTF is he doing in "The Mummy Returns"? Stick with the WWF!!
i have two more comments on this.
spidey-most predictions from specialists say that it will make at least 10m more than that in the first weekend.
lindsey-the rock is in the movie for(no joke)three minutes.besides, did you see him on snl?he's a pretty funny guy.too bad his role is serious.

Hey all, let's see some predictions for the first weekend gross!! I predict...
$60 MILLION!!!
Why? First "big" movie of the year. Crappy year for movies so far. Strong marketing. Sequel to a major box-office success. Nothing else opening this weekend.

I say 50 millon
Hard to say. It think the Mummy will stay larger because the second one was worse. The first one was really really fun. THis one had it's moments but the strangly dumb story and horrible horrible acting (not by the main few characters though) took over. Too fricken cheesy!
The Mummy Returns first weekend: 56 million cajones...that means dollars.

Biggest movie of the year. No. Wasnt there a little movie called Hannibal that opened up earlier in Feb. The most anticipated movie in the last couple of years (fuck star wars). Oh well............i say 48 million
I think he was talking about the first big movie of the spring/summer season...
i think the mummy returns was very good and deserves to make at least as much as the original.also, all you complaining about the acting, this is not a film that takes itself seriously!did you see the little mummy blowdart warriors?! sit back and enjoy the ride.
for all you guys making box office predictions, the movie made 24.1 million dollars and is expected to make 63-69 million dollars for the weekend.

All it needs is 50 next week, 30 the week after, and it'll be safe while Pearl Harbor arrives.
Damn, 70 million.
does anybody here think any movie will make that much in it's first weekend again this year? personally, i don't.everyone is saying pearl harbor will blow it out of the water, but lets remember that bay and bruckheimer's last film(armageddon)which had bigger stars and less bad buzz, made 50 something million dollars in FIVE days, whereas the mummy returns made 70 million dollars in THREE days.

Personally i thought "The Mummy" was slightly better than "The Mummy Returns". Althought it was not as funny or had as good action sequences. But the first one had more surprises than the sequel.

I think if Pearl Harbor opened last weekend instead of the Mummy 2 it still would have grossed such a high number at the box office, because people were just dying for a good popcorn movie. No matter which one as long as it was a spectacular one with a big budget. But hey, that's just what I think...
