THE BEST TWISTS IN HORROR

SCARIEST REVELATION: Carol Kane as the babysitter in the first 20 minutes of WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, attempting to make her escape after realizing WHERE the menacing phone calls she's been receiving are coming from!!!

a highway which was paved by...

LET'S KILL THE LEAD CHARACTER: Marion Crane (Janet Leigh in PSYCHO), who was butchered in the now infamous "shower scene", which paved the way for other films which used this technique (first identifiable character who is dispatched early on in the story)...Drew Barrymore in SCREAM, Robbi Morgan in FRIDAY THE 13TH, Lesleh Donaldson in HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, and Natasha Gregson-Wagner in URBAN LEGEND, just to name a few.

DIDN'T REALIZE THEY WERE DEAD: Tim Robbins in JABOB'S LADDER; Bruce Willis in THE SIXTH SENSE; James Farentino in DEAD and BURIED; Candace Hilligoss in CARNIVAL OF SOULS.

...BUT YOU CAN'T CHOOSE YOUR RELATIVES: Nurse Marion Chambers (Nancy Stephens) reveals to Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) that Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is the long-lost sister of psychopathic killer Michael Myers. This "secret" took the series in a totally different direction.

DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY TIES: In PROM NIGHT, Kim Hammond (Jamie Lee Curtis) unknowingly sideswipes her brother Alex (Michael Tough) with an axe, without realizing that he is the "man behind the mask" stalking her boyfriend Nick (Casey Stevens) in the finale of that great early 80's slasher flick.

LAST ONE TO GET KILLED IS A ROTTEN CORPSE: the surprise deaths of "heroines" Saffron Burrows in DEEP BLUE SEA, Radha Mitchell in PITCH BLACK and Samantha Eggar in CURTAINS.

BAD TO THE BONE: Harold Angel (Mickey Rourke) realizing that he is responsible for the series of murders plaguing ANGEL HEART...guided by the right hand of Satan (a devilish Robert DeNiro), of course.

MOST UNLIKELY KILLER: Mrs. Voohrees (Betsy Palmer) in FRIDAY THE 13TH. The film's heroine Alice (Adrienne King) trusted this seemingly sincere grandma, and so did the audience.

BEST PRANK: Kit (Amy Steel) discovering that her friends' deaths were an elaborate practical joke in APRIL FOOL'S DAY.

IT WAS ALL A DREAM: Sole survivor Sue Snell (Amy Irving) is attacked by a hand from beyond the grave in the CARRIE finale.

KILLER DISGUISE: The magician's assistant in TERROR TRAIN.

THE GIRL MOST LIKELY TO...: The "Southern Belle" (Laura Harris) revealing herself as the "Alien Queen" in THE FACULTY.

SADDEST TWIST: Karen (Dee Wallace) revealing herself as a werewolf on the nightly news in the finale of THE HOWLING.

IF YOU CAN'T BEAT 'EM, JOIN 'EM: Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow) gently rocking her Satanic infant to sleep in ROSEMARY'S BABY.

LET'S KILL THE LEAD CHARACTER:
Yeah, i SO wasn't expected DREW to get the knife treatment! I thought she was the main star! That was cool!

DID REALISE THEY WERE DEAD:
Sorry, but i SO noticed that BRUCEY was a walking corpse. There aren't enough words in my vocabulary to describe that shite film.

DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY TIES:
Yeah, that was cool. Even though i knew it was gonna be that dude - it still rocked! PROM NIGHT is a quality slasher flick.

MOST UNLIKELY KILLER:
"Mrs Voorhees was a WONDERFUL serial killer!"

BEST PRANK:
APRIL FOOLS DAY - COOL,COOL movie. Great idea!

MOST LAME TWIST:
I fucking hate THE HOWLING - STUPID, STUPID CRAP. I've got it as well! Later, i'm gonna do a big dump on the cover!!!!! HOWLING 4 is also one of the worst movies i have ever seen!

I can understand your hatred for "The Howling", though I loved it to bits. Now "Howling II" is much more deserving of your jeers, my friend.

ZOMBIE JASON, sorry for not including a ~SPOILER ALERT~ on this topic. I just assumed that if you're going to read a list of THE BEST TWISTS IN HORROR, you'd expect such revelations.

Also, HORROR WHORE, I myself hate that tub of lard Rosie O'Dyke! She also ruined the ending for those who had not yet seen AMERICAN BEAUTY when it won the Best Picture Oscar last year. She also dissed the movie! The absolute nerve!

DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY TIES- THE REVELATION THAT THE KILLER IN "FINAL TERROR" IS THE CRAZED MOTHER, OF THE WEIRDO ,EGGAR, WHO WAS "ATTACKED" AS A CHILD, AND LIVES IN A RUN-DOWN SHACK IN THE WOODS.
- ALSO THE REVELATION TWO MEMBERS OF THE GARTH CLAN ARE ALIVE IN "HELL NIGHT"

MY BEST PLOT TWISTS WOULD HAVE TO BE- IN "FINAL EXAM", THE FACT THAT U NEVER FIND OUT WHO THE HELL THE KILLER IS,
and IN "BLADE IN THE DARK", WERE U DISCOVER THE KILLER IS ACTUALLY A MAN IN DRAG, WHICH IS QUITE SHOCKING.

DIDN'T REALIZE THEY WERE DEAD: Jay Ferguson in CAMPFIRE TALES. The whole campfire thing was his comatose dream because they all died in that car accident. A very shocking revelation.

LET'S KILL THE LEAD CHARACTER- The scary as HELL, death in the elevator of poor Angie Dickinson in DRESSED TO KILL. That was so shocking, you felt real sorry for her.
ALSO- In BLOW-OUT, where Nancy Allen's character is stabbed to death above the parade, as John Travolta runs to save her.
As it was so near the end of the movie, you so didn't expect her to get killed, very shocking.

Add the shocking final shot of JEEPERS CREEPERS to my list. One of the best final twists in recent memory (save the FIGHT CLUB identity crisis).

One of my favorite twist ending ever was the absolutely shocking ending of Angel Heart. Also, The Others ending shocked me.
