Yeah, it's a little early, but I like to plan ahead. Here they are:
(Post your favorites so I can have an idea of what else to rent on Halloween.)

1.(tie) Halloween 1 and 2
2. Evil Dead
3. Night of the Living Dead (original and remake)
4. John Carpenter's The Thing
5. The Blair Witch Project
6. Dawn of the Dead
7. A Nightmare On Elm Street
8. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
9. Fright Night
10. Phantasm

These aren't all necessarily the scariest movies ever made. I just think they're perfect for increasing the creepy atmosphere on Halloween.

not bad...

I usually check out some of these:

-"Prom Night"
-"Halloween"
-"Tales From The Crypt"...the original, not "Demon Knight" or "Bordello Of Blood"
-"Scream"
-"Nightmare Before Christmas"
-"The Omen"...great Fall feeling
-"House on Haunted Hill"...original with Vincent Price...although I love the new version...
-"It's the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown"...while listening to the theme music from "HAlloween"
-"Pumpkinhead"
-"Carrie"
-"An American Werewolf In London"...Paris sucks...
-"Martin"
or a bunch of HBO's "Tales from the Crypt" series videos...

just a few nuggets for all you young-uns...and don't start with the "we are mature for a 12 year-old" speech...I believe you already...so relax...take a smoke break or a shot of some fire-water...oops, sorry, I forgot...you aren't old enough...and heck, most of these films are R-rated...wait...you can still watch Charlie Brown or the Nightmare before Christmas...phew...

I like to do my Halloween in mostly King style:

this is how we will start out

Dead Zone
Carrie
The Shining
Fire Starter
The Dark Half
Pet Semetary
Misery
It
Deloris Clayborne

and of course we have
Phantasam (can't decide which one to watch though. Any thoughts on this? The first one was good, but this series is s guilty pleasure, maybe I should just get all of them)
The Omen (I agree with Brock, it has a great fall feeling)
Night of the Living Dead (original only)

Last but not least no Halloween would be complete without Halloween 1 and 2. /ubb/smile.gif /ubb/smile.gif /ubb/smile.gif

The Arrow

For Halloween I'd go with this...

Halloween
The Shining
Cats Eye
Twilight Zone The Movie
Night Of The Living Dead (Original)
Psycho (Original)
Phantasm (the first is the creepiest but the second is more fun)
Nightmare On Elm Street
Friday The 13th
The Exorcist

You bring the beer I'll bring the broads...

ColonelColinCaine
09-20-2000, 05:08 PM
Yeah, kerryanne, I'll have to agree with Arrow that the original Phantasm is the creepiest, and most suitable for Halloween. But the sequel is a lot of fun, too.

Why don't the tv stations in the united kingdom celebrate Halloween?
You people in the usa are lucky, you get to watch all the classic horror films that night, but in the UK you are lucky if they screen anything in the horror genre, it rarely happens.
But, enough of my moaning, enjoy your Halloween!! (in a few weeks)

screamfan
09-22-2000, 09:03 AM
true brandysnappz but you can watch recent horror movies on sky (IKWYDLS, H20, URBAN LEGEND) but thats about it. i really wanna see from dusk till dawn and nightmare on elm street 7 but there never on and blockbuster only have recent movies so i guess ill just have to do without.

I say people should watch whatever scares them, like halloween 1-7 dont scare me but movies like excorist and freddy 1 do so i think thats what ill watch.

brandysnappz2
09-22-2000, 09:44 AM
I agree with you screamfan, you can watch recent horror movies on sky, but when I was a kid, I remember watching all the classic mevies such as friday 13th, prom night, etc.. on Haloween night, and used to scare myself silly, I would just like to see uk tv channels screen horror movies all through the night, say from 11pm, because not everyone has sky.

The Troll Man
09-22-2000, 04:46 PM
There's been nothing much on UK TV on Halloween since Ghostwatch a few years back, and that may be why - lots of people complained (because it scared them!) and there were a couple of problems with the wrong sort of people watching it and taking it too seriously, like with The Exorcist and Clockwork Orange, there may have been one suicide...

Stab2000
09-23-2000, 01:45 AM
I say:
1.)Halloween
2.)Friday the 13th
3.)Rosemarry's Baby
4.)Scream
5.)A Nightmare on Elm Street
6.)Prom Night
7.)Pet Semetary
8.)Cats Eye
9.)The Exorcist
10.)and Halloween 2

ColonelColinCaine
09-26-2000, 05:11 PM
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention Return of the Living Dead. I watch it every year, so I'd be stupid not to put it on my list. I don't feel like reworking the list to fit it on there right now, so I'll just give it special mention.

OK, this is important. If you want a horror filled hallowe'en there are certain films you just HAVE to watch. Here's my list:

1. Carrie
2. IT
3. The Shining
4. Christine
5. Children of the corn
6. Scream (cheesy, I know but I'm a sucker for Matthew Lillard)
7. Dracula (Bela Legosi)
8. Hallowe'en 1
9. The Haunting
10. Interview with a Vampire.

Brandon
10-02-2000, 05:53 PM
1.Halloween
2.Haloween II
3.Haloween:H20
(the trilogy-don't give me any grief but I prefer to only acknowledge those three.)
4. Scream(possibly Scream 2)
5.Psycho(the orginal)
6. A Nightmare on Elm Street
7. The Blair Witch Project
8. Gremlins
9. Ghostbusters
10. some classic Scooby-Doo and SNL: Halloween Special

Those last few are to play when trick or treaters are at my house so as not to offend any parents. Luckily I own all of these since I'm already in debt at Blockbuster.

ColonelColinCaine

Come on, guys, I'm going to need a lot more suggestions. I've already seen most of these.
Thanks to those who did post, though.

Not necessesarily just on Halloween, I encourage one to watch these movies ALONE and in the dark, if fact I dare you ! 1. The Changeling - 1980, 2. The Forgotten One (the first hour is super scary) 3.Lady in White, 4.The Norliss Tapes, 5.The Night Stalker, 6.The Exorcist (of course) 7.Count Yorga Vampire, 8.Repulsion, 9.The Sentinel, 10.Night of the Living Dead (of course) 11.Witchboard Some of these movies are hard to find, but, boy are they worth seeking out.

kerryanne
10-06-2000, 05:26 PM
Here's a new suggestion, The Hearst. I don't really remember it too well, but hey it's something different. /ubb/smile.gif /ubb/smile.gif /ubb/smile.gif

Brock Landers
10-06-2000, 05:35 PM
You want different? Than I would really recommend the early Roman Polanski film "The Fearless Vampire Killers". It's like a box of chocolates...(minus the retard on the bench)...it's a horror soiree of the finest pedigree...

Mr. Meat
10-07-2000, 05:41 AM
After the fear of being possessed after watching the classic The Exorcist and after you're done worrying if you heard a sound outside that could only be the slow footsteps of Mikey Myers, put in Evil Dead 2. Gory fun, it'll cheer ya up and make you ready for bedtime...::tries his hardest to produce an evil laugh::

ColonelColinCaine
10-07-2000, 07:02 PM
Thanks, guys! I've seen a lot of those too, (I can't even count how many times I've seen Evil Dead 2) but still some good suggestions. Now if I can just find some of them.

*veers*
10-09-2000, 09:53 AM
How about
1-THE DEVIL RIDES OUT (Terence Fisher)
2-THE WICKER MAN (Robin Hardy)
3-MARTIN (George Romero)
4-TERROR AT THE OPERA (Dario Argento)
5-A CAT IN THE BRAIN (Lucio Fulci)
6-MATTHEW HOPKINS: WITCHFINDER GENERAL (Michael Reeves)
7-SPELLBOUND (Alfred Hitchcock)
8- NIGHTMARE IN A DAMAGED BRAIN (Romano Scavolini)
9-THE BEYOND (Lucio Fulci)
10-THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH (Roger Corman)

Do not, EVER, watch all of these films in the one sitting on any kind of drug. You will not recover. But if you are straight on HALLOWEEN take your mind on a trip!

The Arrow
10-17-2000, 12:31 PM
I can't believe I forgot the ultimate Halloween flick: SUSPIRIA...fer sure that one will be on my plate...

kerryanne
10-17-2000, 02:12 PM
Hey Arrow...What's that one about. I've never heard of it.

The Arrow
10-17-2000, 03:28 PM
Its a Dario Argento flick about an american student who enrolls at a posh dance academy without knowing that its run by a covent of witches.

the film has amazing sets (real abstract, full of colors), eerie lighting and a chilling score.

Its a very spooky movie and its perfect for Halloween.

Brock Landers
10-17-2000, 04:01 PM
The Arrow is right...it's got great visuals and the lead actress, Jessica Harper, is quite the babe...or was quite the babe...you may remember her from that Peter O'Toole Film "My Favorite Year" where she plays K.C. Downing, or as Daisy in Woody Allen's "Stardust Memories". She was also in "Mr. Wonderful", "Boys" and appeared on "The Garry Shandling Show"...

I read that Suspiria was the first part of an incomplete trilogy of films by Dario Argento about the "Three Mothers." (the second film was "Inferno")...

doctor drew
10-17-2000, 04:15 PM
I had the chance to check out Suspiria at a repertory cinema a few weeks back. It was my first foray into Argento's twisted world and well, it freaked the shit out of me.

The opening scene where the girl rides in the taxi at night during the torrential downpour sets the "eerie" tone for the whole film. When she checks in to the hotel and the crazed knifeman bursts through the window, disemboweling and hanging her...I jumped like a school girl.

What I really dug about the movie, like you said, were the elaborate sets of the rooms and halls. It had a sanitarium-like feel to it, with all the young girls trapped inside. The walls had these elaborate landscapes and images, very much like the Tarsem's The Cell, only adding to the madness. The music bordered at times, on ultra cheese, but c'mon, what do you expect from an Italian horror flick? The whole "old ladies" running the dance school had a creepy vibe too.

Simply put, a great Halloween flick. Good call, Arrow.

The Arrow
10-17-2000, 04:30 PM
Yeah I saw it recently on the big screen too.

But they played the censored print.

The film was scratched

And the audience was drunk and laughing so hard.

The good thing is that I found the uncut version on tape but its in french. At least I got to see the opening murder in all its glory...wow

ColonelColinCaine

Halloween's less than a week away. Any more suggestions?

The Arrow

I think Pumpkinhead would make a wonderful Halloween night screening.

Night Of The Demons (if you're drunk)

*veers*
10-27-2000, 04:22 AM
Um a few more, okay

1-The Church (Michele Soavi)
2-The Fog (John Carpenter)
3-An American Werewolf in London (John Landis)
4-The Boogey Man (Uli Lommel)
On Saturday though, I'll be watching Channel 4's new documentary about slasher movies. It will rock. Arrow if you know anyone in the UK who can make you a NTSC copy, you should go for it. Channel 4 take the horror genre very seriously over here. They made a horror documentary for the halloween period before. All about horror which included new interviews with Craven, Argento, Barker and loads more

Screamer...I spent all day yesterday salivating at the thought of watching TCM on IFC last night...Even though I've waited six months to watch the Yanks kick some Mets butt, I tuned in at 10:00. Why, oh, why did they talk over the movie. I was very upset. But, I am renting the video for tonight.

Of COURSE one MUST watch the HALLOWEEN trio (1,2 & H2O/7). Good call on NIGHT OF THE DEMONS. Since it IS Halloween, I think the flicks should be Halloween-themed. Like JACK-O, TRICK OR TREATS, and maybe HALLOWEEN 3 (just think of it as it's own movie).

Start off with some spooky stuff that isn't TOO disturbing, 'cause I got kids who love scary stuff, see. The Ray Bradbury adaptations THE HALLOWEEN TREE and SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES come first, then THE FOG (Oh, come on, it's scary but it's a ghost story; They can handle it!) and DEAD OF NIGHT (1945). Send 'em up to bed and it's time for THE HAUNTING ('63), CURSE OF THE DEMON, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, HORROR HOTEL, CARNIVAL OF SOULS...And of course, HALLOWEEN.

I'm planning on watching many more horror films this October, but here are the 10 currently I would consider my faves to watch on Halloween (actually, THIS Halloween):
