CLASSIEST VAMPIRE: Bela Lugosi in DRACULA

MOST TORTURED VAMPIRES: Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst in INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE

WORST VAMPIRES: Tom Cruise and Antonio Banderas in INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (the usually terrific Cruise is embarrassing as LeStat, and Banderas is more flaccid as Armand than Anna Nicole's Smith's dead husband would have been in the role).

COOLEST VAMPIRE: Chris Sarandon in FRIGHT NIGHT

BEST VAMPIRE HUNTERS: James Woods in VAMPIRES; Wesley Snipes in BLADE; Roddy McDowall in FRIGHT NIGHT; "D" in VAMPIRE HUNTER D; Peter Cushing in THE BRIDES OF DRACULA.

SCARIEST VAMPIRES: Reggie Nalder as the Nosferatu-like bloodsucker in SALEM'S LOT; Willem Dafoe's Max Schreck in SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE.

SEXIEST VAMPS: Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon in THE HUNGER.

BEST VAMPIRE COUPLE: Adrian Pasdar and Jenny Wright in NEAR DARK.

MOST VICIOUS GANG OF VAMPIRES: Lance Henriksen, Jenette Goldstein, Bill Paxton and Joshua Miller in NEAR DARK.

BEST TV VAMPIRES: (1) Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) in DARK SHADOWS (this classic, campy series plays every morning on SCI-FI); RUNNERS-UP: (2) Perrey Reeves (David Duchovny's real-life ex-girlfriend) in THE X-FILES episode titled "3"; (3) and that scary S.O.B. chasing Darren McGavin in THE NIGHT STALKER pilot!!!

I really like;
1. THE LOST BOYS
2. FRIGHT NIGHT 1 + 2
3. FROM DUSK TILL DAWN
4. BLADE

ANTONIO - Nice one on the COOLEST VAMPIRE. I have liked CHRIS SARANDON ever since i saw him play, with total competence, the cop in CHILD'S PLAY. TOM HOLLAND must've thought he was good in FRIGHT NIGHT, so he got him to work with again.
And yes! I am guilty - I LOVE THE COREYS!

My favourite vampire movies would have to be Interview With The Vampire, Fright Night, Vampires and Dracula 2000.

My favorites would have to be: Vampires, From Dusk Till Dawn, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Lost Boys, Blade, Interview With The Vampire, and the original Dracula with Bela Lugosi. That new movie coming out, The Forsaken, looks like one bad ass vampire flick too. Oh yeah, you can't forget Martin.

Dammit! Am I the only person alive that has actually seen Darkness or Vampire Hunter D?????
These are the two best vampire films in years! Darkness is a work of pure genious!!!!! The lighting was so dark it was creeped me out, and the gore was terrific. One of the best independent horror films of all time.

Vampire Hunter D is probably the best anime and vampire hunter film. Gore, action, love, and more gore. I completely loved this film. I usually don't like anime, but this movie grabed me by the balls and didn't let up until the credits.

If you have not seen either of these films, you owe it to yourself to go out and rent copies of both. You won't be disappointed at all.

Got to agree with Skaboy on this one. No live action vampire movie can compare with the masterful anime Vampire Hunter D. D is not only the best hunter in the business, he may be one of the best characters in any type of horror film. Any fan of vampire movies are anime should defenitly check out this flick. I personally recommend it!

My local Blockbuster only had the 1985 version of the anime classic VAMPIRE HUNTER D, and the Internet Movie Database lists a newer version released in 2000. I'm sure THAT'S the one ya'll are all raving about. The 1985 version was way cool, with interesting characters and great art direction, but seemed a bit dated in today's world of PIXAR FX. Anyway, is the 2000 version available only on DVD? If it is indeed on video, where can I order it?

I got the new VHS version which isn't any better then the original copy, maybe a bit crisper. I got it at Media play, so I am sure you can find it anywhere.

I always fancied Near Dark... it's one of the only Vampire movies (I'm pretty sure...) that doesn't mention the word itself. I always thought that was nice. In all fairness... I think I had just seen "Aliens" before that and I thought it was cool that half the cast was in this film too.

One that no one has mentioned (and one that "From Dusk to Dawn" borrowed HEAVILY from plotwise) is a mid '80s movie called "Vamp." Grace Jones was the head Vampiress and Chris Makepeace (yes, that's his name...) was the hero. All the Vampires were sexy ladies (yesssss...) and they all worked in a strip club (YESSSSS...).

You've got to include Lost Boys, and Fright Night...and without a doubt a forgotten vampire classic Salem's Lot. Last but not least Leslie Nielsons "Dead and Loving it"...shoot me now

EMMOZANJO -
VAMP is a really cool film. I remember getting quite scared by it, cos i was only about 10 when i saw it. I'd love to see it again. I'm a big fan of ROBERT RUSLER who's in it. (He's also been in NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET PART 2, WEIRD SCIENCE and SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK)

Who would you cast as LeStat in the inevitable sequel to INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, titled THE VAMPIRE LeSTAT? Let's hope that Tom Cruise is unavailable. Who else could portray the tortured bloodsucker? My choices would be either Wes Bentley or Christian Bale.

I rented NEAR DARK today from BlockBastard (as my friend Quentin so affectionately refers to the establishment). It was a freebie, so I'll post my review after I watch it.

Also, has anyone seen the remake of NOSFERATU with Klaus Kinski? If so, is it worth the price of a rental?

The vampires in From Dusk Till Dawn were too pussy for me, the film had no depth and could of been a lot better. I believe the best vampire movie is Blade, The Lost Boys is second in my opinion.

what happened to old-skool vampires? Nosferatu, undoubtedly is the best Dracula interpretation, and one of the greatest vampire movies

NEAR DARK (1987) Directed by Kathryn Bigelow of "Blue Steel" fame. Adrian Pasdar stars as a young Texas cowboy who is both bitten and smitten by an innocent female vamp (Jenny Wright). Wright belongs to a vicious gang of modern-day slasher vampires (sans fangs), who travel through the Southwest in search of victims. This gang includes a trio of actors from "Aliens" (Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton and Jenette Goldstein), as well as a young boy (Joshua Miller). The conflict arises when Pasdar's character refuses to make his first kill. Bigelow's slick direction, Paxton's hilarious turn and the great score by Tangerine Dream are highlights. Pasdar and Wright, a great match, are reminiscent of younger, innocent versions of George Clooney and Madonna. One of the best vampire films out there. Never a dull moment. My grade: B+

Okay Antonio I'm reposting in this thread:

Here's my list:
1. Vampire in Brooklyn (Maximillian (Eddie Murphy) has major style)
2. Fright Night (you rule Brewster - Evil Ed)
3. Interview with the Vampire (great script, great film work & great cast)
4. Horror of Dracula (Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing at their best)
5. Fright Night part 2 (great ideas, actually works)
6. Dracula Prince of Darkness (Hammer Horror rules)
7. Mel Brook's Dracula Dead and Loving It (don't ask just watch it)
8. Bram Stoker's Dracula (chick flick crossed with Dracula makes for a good watch)
9. Dracula A.D. 1972 (only Mr Lee and Mr Cushing could bring Drac into the 70s and make it work)
10. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Luke Perry's acting is way scary)
Anyone want to add to the list?

Lost Boys
and although it may be cheesy I love Salem's Lot.

My 3 favorite vampire movies are
--Near Dark (I'm in love with Jenette Goldstein)
--From Dusk Till Dawn (I like the actors, Salma's dance with the snake was sooo hot and I love George's tattoo)
--Daughters of Darkness (A classic I never tire of watching)

I also like Interview With The Vampire even though i wish River had been able to play Christian's role of the reporter. I thought Antonio was very good, but was physically wrong for the role of an auburn-haired 17-year-old. I liked Tom, I though he was great. I don't like Brad at all. Sexiest man? Yuck! I'd love to see Vampire Lestat as a movie. Cher as Akasha?

I love The Lost Boys--I have a thing for both Sutherlands--but resent that it took all press and publicity and left Near Dark in the cold.

I liked Bram Stokers Dracula for the FX, the story line incorporating the original Vlad, and Gary's acting. And the fact Winona's a home girl.

And I can't forget Christopher Lee in the Hammer Films. I grew up on those and never tire of them.

BEST PSEUDO-FAMILY OF VAMPIRES: Lance Henriksen, Jenette Goldstein, Bill Paxton, Joshua Miller and Jenny Wright in Near Dark.

WORST PSEUDO-FAMILY OF VAMPIRES: Louis, Claudia and LeStat (Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst and Tom Cruise) in Interview With The Vampire.

MOST MEAN-SPIRITED VAMPIRES: The Parisian underground bloodsuckers in Interview With The Vampire.

In response to your little survey demo you displayed:

TOP TEN: (In no paticular order)

1) Fright Night
2) John Carpenter's Vampires
3) Bram Stoker's Dracula
4) Dracula (Langella Version)
5) Blade
6) Blade II
7) Dracula 2000
8) Dracula (Christopher Lee Version)
9) Near Dark
10) Interview With The Vampire

CLASSIEST VAMPIRE: Frank Langella's Dracula (Yummy)

MOST TORTURED VAMPIRES: Most of the crew from Interview

WORST VAMPIRES: Friggin' Talisa Soto's Vampirella! UNWORTHY!!

COOLEST VAMPIRE: Jerry and Regine Dandrige, Satanico Pandemonium, and Valek

BEST VAMPIRE HUNTERS: Jack Crow, Buffy Summers (so sue me, I grew up with her movie), Blade, Abraham Van Helsing (in most versions of Dracula)

MOST KICK-ASS VAMPIRE FX: Blade and the whole bar sequence in Near Dark was pretty kick-arse.

SCARIEST VAMPIRES: Count Orlock, Barlow

SEXIEST VAMPS: Jerry Dandrige, Valek, most Draculas, Lestat (in both the book and the movie he was just a sexy bastard),

BEST VAMPIRE COUPLE: Okay, the movie didn't overtly show it, but the relationship between Jerry Dandrige and Billy Cole in Fright Night was interesting... something makes me think that Cole isn't just Dandrige's day-watcher and room-mate... of course there is NOTHING wrong with what I am implying.

MOST VICIOUS GANG OF VAMPIRES: Of course the Near Dark crew but to a degree the clan of vampires in From Dusk Till Dawn.

BEST TV VAMPIRES: Angelus/Angel (I prefer the BAAAAAAD version of him), Radu, Iris and Ash (The Vampire Diaries) and to a degree Nick Knight (Forever Knight)
