Most remakes tend to suck. (Invaders from Mars) But there were a few that I thought were actually better than the original.
The Blob
The Thing
The Fly
Invasion of the Body Snathers
Night of the Living Dead
Godzilla (don't say a damn word; I already know what you're going to say and I don't give a shit; so just don't say it.)
There's more, but I can't think of them right now. Please share some of yours.

I thought these were good:
The Mummy-
Dracula-
Frankenstein-
Puppetmaster

They need to make a new wolfman.

Oh, yeah, I somehow forgot about The Mummy. It's my second favorite remake, behind The Blob and The Thing, which are tied for first.

The Fly would have to be one of my favorites, if not my favorite. The effects are still good, even while viewing the film again today (screw CG animation)!

The Fly 2 sucked ass, but had one of those actors I haven't seen in anything for a while (Eric Stoltz-Mask was his best work)

I thought the remake of House on Haunted Hill was done well.

Man, you gotta love the remake of "Psycho". Gus Van Zant must have some hefty cajones. The cast is cool and he even added a masturbation scene. Hitchcock rip-off or not, nothing is sacred anymore, anyhow...

The new "House On Haunted Hill" is definite well done. I think the atmosphere and the cast make the film...or maybe I find Famke Jannsen very enticing?...

ALL THIS AND YOU BLATANTLY MISSED...

Night of the Living Dead (even directed by the same)
Rear Window (maybe not true HORROR, but scary to some)
Watcher in the Woods (Disneys first venture into horror...)
Someone to Watch over Me
The Hitcher (first appearance starring Robert Mitchum and was BLAH)

AND WHATS THIS I HEAR?
The Haunting? walls are groaning because you said that...
Godzilla? Which godzilla... there haven't been any remakes, just sequels... not to pick a fight.
House On Haunted Hill? The original may not have had GREAT special effects, but the atmosphere was better.

Well, VIRGIL, I never said anything about the remake of The Haunting, though a few people dissed it, so I don't know WHERE you got that from!
Also, Roland Emmerich's 1998 version of Godzilla WAS a remake.

VIRGIL

Read up on that... Godzilla by Roland Emmerichh was a sequel to godzilla the american made from the 80s... plus, (still not trying to rip on anyone) the godzilla would have been a a completely separate movie, or *remake*, IF they had kept the same story, but remade the movie, and no previous godzilla movie had him as a giant lizard amphibian which could lay his own babies. I realize it is crucial in some remakes to astound the audience with new development or new direction of story, but just because it features the same monster would not make it a remake of the original godzilla. Otherwise, we could say that Godzilla Vs. Megalon was a remake of Godzilla Vs. Mothra.
So please... this is not a matter which should come up again.

Okay. I don't want to start some weird fight over something as stupid as a Godzilla movie. I'll just let it end here.
But one question: If Emmerich's Godzilla was a sequel to Godzilla 1985 (which sucked, by the way), then how come no one in the movie knew what the hell was going on in the first 30 or so minutes of the movie? I mean, even when Godzilla first attacked, no one knew what the hell it was. If it had been a sequel, wouldn't somebody have mentioned Godzilla attacking before?
Just answer that one question, and then I'll shut up.

The Thing, The Blob, The Fly, and Night of the Living Dead were all amazing re-makes.

The old invasion of the Body Snatchers is far better then the new one.

Invaders from Mars pretty much just sucks.

Village of the damned. Why the hell did Carpenter remake this anyway? The old one is a little better.

Godzilla ain't no remake, and the last movie released in America sucked Rodan's big toe.

The Mummy was good, but not in a scary way.

I liked the House on Haunted Hill and The Haunting remakes.

Dracula? Uhmm.. well, lots of Dracula movies. Hard to sort all that out. But, I did like Bram Stoker's Dracula lots better then the Bela Legosi one.

I absolutely LOVED The remake of "House on hounted hill" and the original...well, it sucked big portions of ass.
And a few hours ago (belive it or not) saw the remake of "The Blob" (unrated, producer's cut), wow!, one of the most disturbing movies ever.

The Thing and Night of the Living Dead. The new version of the Thing definitely blew away the old one.

The Fly is my favorite. I mean, the original was really a stupid 50's commercial movies. Pure junk compare to the remake. I even saw Return of the Fly witch is god aweful.

Which film is Sleepy Hollow a remake of?

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD '90 would have to be my favorite. It's as good, if not better, than the original.

Let's make one thing clear:
Jan de Bont's the Haunting is NOT, I repeat NOT a remake of the '63 classic. Both movies are based on the book 'House on Haunted Hill' by Shirly Jackson. Jan de Bont didn't have any rights to remake the '63 version and there were even lawyers on the set to make sure de Bont's version wouldn't look like the '63 version to much.

The Shining miniseries are also NOT a remake of Kubricks version.

And of course, most Dracula and Frankenstein movies are not remakes of the Hammer versions. I mean you can't call every movie that is based on a book and that appeared after another movie based on the same book a remake.

#1 The Thing(if you don't like this your not a true horror fan)
#2 13 Ghosts(regardless of what any poser horror fan says this is a good movie)

I did not like House on Haunted Hill..a remake should have never been made of such a perfect classic.
