THE ST FRANSCISVILLE EXPERIMENT. That must have been one miserable cat - stuck in a cupboard in a deserted house just waiting to pop out and scare some ghosthunters!

Doesn't it happen in Scream? When the dumb chick (I forget which one out of about 20) goes into the garage to get a beer or something?

And, it's technically not a movie, but Silent Hill has a "cat jumping out" bit.

Every movie, Just like every movie has the ''Blood Runs from the Faucet'' effect. Could film makers please kill these overused effects....

There was a scene in "The Relic". A cat jumped out in the boat that the kathoga was transported in, just before they found all the dead bodies.

HALLOWEEN II: A cat jumps out of a trash can and scares hospital security guard Mr. Garrett, who is susequently hammered to death by Michael in the following scene.

I always wondered how this cliche started. Has anyone owned a cat that jumped though the air at you while emitting a piercing meow?

And how do cats get in such odd places: closed closet doors, a hospital's storage room, a boat from South America that somehow steers itself to Chicago...

I guess if I have a question, it's this: what was the first movie to utilize cheap scare?

FeverDog, I take it you've never owned a cat. I share a big house with nine of them (my housemate's totally cat-mad), and they not only yowl while leaping but they can get anywhere, including the tiny space between the racks in our OB van, where he or she will sit undiscovered until we're nearly at the job.

in that TV movie I've Been Waiting For You.

MY FAVES (best to worst)

Friday the 13th - Part VII: The New Blood

Halloween II

Friday the 13th - Part 2

I'm sure I've seen more with the fake scare, but cant really remember them. I was never a fan of the cat jumping through and window out a closet thing.

There are very much movies with cats that scare some bitch (when she sees it's a cat she ain't afraid anymore, then she gets killed).
I think the weirdest catscene is in Friday 7:
None of the characters has a cat. Still when some gal opens a closet, a cat jumps out.
Poor animal...

I agree with Juice. Who would bring a cat on a camping trip and why would it be locked in the closet. The cat was suposed to be David's, why would a druggie, alcoholic guy (that all the girls wanna get with) bring his cat on a trip?

Although the cat jumping through the window in Part 2 actually made me jump, the one in Part 7 wasn't as lame (in my opinion).

In Part 7, it would have been better if some books or a bag full of shit fell off a shelf, making Robin jump!

I love the Friday 2 cat. But if you look at that scene good, you can see how the cat is throwed in.
