Which horror film has the 'killer' of all beginnings- sets the film off with a bang, and perhaps even goes downhill from there...or perhaps not /ubb/smile.gif why do ya like it??
i have to say 'Scream's beginning is very powerful, and the best scene in the whole movie!

I think the first batman had a really cool beginning with the maze that formed the bat sign and so forth.
Sleepy Hollow
Army of Darkness
Empire Strikes Back
Saving Private Ryan-damn intense!

I love the opening credits for "Alien," with the letters of the title looking like unearthly heiroglyphics before they fade in completely ... it sets the mood for the entire movie.

ARMY OF DARKNESS:
"Then it got in my hand, and it went bad..."
HALLOWEEN II:
"I've been trick or treated to death tonight."
"You don't know what death is!"
SCREAM 2: "Why's we gots ta see da movies wit dem white folk?" Jada Pinkett deserved every stab!
NIGHT OF THE DEMONS: Great credit sequence.
LEATHERFACE: Any movie that starts with a scream and a girl getting smacked with a sledgehammer wins points.
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN & EMPIRE STRIKES BACK opening battles. When Hollywood does something right.

I wholeheartedly agree about "Urban Legends", I mean, the hot chick in the rain, singing a bad song...running out of gas...a creepy Brad Dourif...the guy with the axe in the back seat...the jagged pieces of window as the axe breaks through...it just rocks...

I heard they edited out a prologue involving a girl in a bathtub with a lobster tail ...

Close, but no cigar...actually I think you are referring to the deleted footage where Joshua Jackson discovers Rebecca Gayheart naked with a jar of peanut butter spread on her nether regions laying in bed with Josh's beer-swilling dog...

Oh, so *that's* the "deleted (love) scene" they speak of at IMDb? lol. Yes, Urban Legend had a great beginning, but a SHITE ending. The beginning of Scream was classic. It induced me to never answer the phone when I was alone. Sleepy Hollow's beginning kicked ass...Martin Landau in a cornfield...surely not an X-Files connection...

The beginning to blade was one of the most intense scenes that i've seen. Blood bath into the ass kicking of vampires. Just great.

i also agree. The start to urban legend kicks ass!The build up with the weirdo, but then he (good ol' brad) shouts "Theres someone in the back seat!" Dope!

Dourif is such a great stutterer...I mean, he started his career stuttering as Billy Bibbitt in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" in 1974 and 20+ years later he is in "Urban Legends" stuttering like a bastard...
"The...ther...ther...th..there's...so..so..so..so.. so..som..someo...someone in yo...your...ba...ba...back...se...se..se...seat! yo...you stu...stu...stup...stupid...cu...cu...cu...Bitch!"

THE BEST OPENING SCENES IN HORROR
HALLOWEEN (when a young Michael, dressed as a clown, butchers his sister Judith).
PROM NIGHT (a group of children play a macabre version of hide-and-go-seek in an abandoned convent).
SCREAM (when Drew Barrymore is stalked and killed).
WHEN A STRANGER CALLS (babysitter Carol Kane is terrorized by a crazed madman via several telephone calls: "have you checked the children?").
WHEN A STRANGER CALLS BACK (a similar scenario to Part One, with babysitter Jill Schoelen terrorized by a crazed madman who comes knocking on her front door like the Big Bad Wolf).

ANTONIO -
I agree with you on WHEN A STRANGER CALLS BACK. The start is so creepy you cant wait to see what happens!I saw it ages ago and then once more recently. I couldnt understand why i only remembered that start bit. Then as the movie went on i did. ITS A PILE OF SHIT!
I would like to see the first one though. Apparently that is good all the way through!

I know I'm a tad bit late responding to this one, but the remainder of WHEN A STRANGER CALLS does not live up to the opening 20 minutes. Only in the last 10 minutes does Carol Kane return to match wits with the psycho who terrorized her years earlier. The sequel had a better story, so if you didn't like that one, you won't like the first one either.

Wait till Morgan sees this post.......
One of my favorite openings in any film would have to be the opening scene in Night Of The Creeps.
The little alien things look soooooo cheap..it's funny as hell. I loved it!
I'd have to go with the beginning of SCREAM and the beginning of URBAN LEGEND. Plus, Am I the only one who actually liked who the killer was in UL? In a way it was a little unrealistic but so are most horror movie killers. Anyway, other than that I thought the killer was great and when they (I won't say who in case someone still hasn't seen it) were acting all crazy in the end, that was the coolest thing, they did a great acting job... Anyway, I still liked who the killer was...

Without giving away the ending, I agree with ya MIKE, about the killer in URBAN LEGEND...who was a bit "nutty"!!!

I love the gimmicking red dripping in the begining of American Psycho. Of course you are to believe it is blood, but it just ends up being some weird food from one of those awful resteraunts those yuppies just love to frequent. Great effect to start such a classic flick.

yep,i forgot about the beginning to PROM NIGHT..that was pretty neat...pretty morbid for those times..
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER had a pretty cool start...it wasnt scary, but it just kinda set a dark mood with the metal music and the overlooking of the ocean..it was neat...something about it jjst got me thinking that "oh this movie is going to be pretty cool"...

Y'all should check out the start to TOURIST TRAP. I know it's kinda cheap and tacky, but the atmosphere makes it seem so realistic, and the outcome, horrifying.
SKABOY -
Can't remember the start to NOTC. If it's what i'm thinking (a young couple get axed in their car by a cop), it's actually quite cool!

Morgan-Beginning starts out with a little baby looking creature carrying a tube. Two other aliens are chasing him and shooting at him. The effects are really shitty, but funny as hell.
It switches the the 50's scene when the tube crashes on Earth
!MorganOnyx!
03-21-2001, 03:46 PM
So that's not the movie i'm thinking of then! Maybe i haven't seen it. Tell me the plot outline.
Skaboy18
03-23-2001, 09:58 PM
Yup, it is the same film that you have seen Morgan.
It goes from the alien launching the tube to being a b/w 1950's type film. This is where the guy finds the tube, gets an alien inside of him while his g/f gets her head whacked

Ok, The Two best beginnings are also to my two favorite movies=
Night Of The Living Dead= "They're horny Barbara They've been dead a long time."
Tenebre-The reading of the book by a unkown figure with black gloves"There was only one answer to the fury that tortured him and so he commited his first act of murder. He had broken the most deep rooted taboo and found not guilt not anxiety or fear, but freedom. Every humiliation which stood in his way could be swept aside by the simple act of annihilation=murder." The black gloves throw the book into a burning fireplace. Really grabs you for a unintense part.

I'de say Final Destination. I don't mean the endless credits, but the airport and plane scenes. So much suspense and the most elaborate plane disaster ever!

LAguy, I thought the opening credits for Final Destination were pretty sweet! Granted, they suck ass the first time you watch the movie, but the second time you watch it you realise that they are quite clever.
The hanging doll, guillotine and picture of the knife in someone's chest cleverly follow the theme of the movie by foreshadowing what's going to happen, to the viewer.

Bry Bry

i dont think the first few moments in TCM was that great...it was EERIE, but snapshots of corpses isnt that GREAT IMO..then again, too each his own..
i think the bgeinning in HALLOWEEN 2 is one of the best..it totally set the tone for the rest of the movie...it had me creeped out and on edge..
the beginning of all 3 SCREAMs were pretty good, especially the first one with BARRYMORE getting killed..i was shocked after she was killed..

Someone said something about a "deleted love scene" from URBAN LEGEND: it's actually a scene where Sasha (Tara Reid) & Parker (Michael Rosenbaum) are acting out a Kama Sutra position and Hootie (Parker's dog) throws up a human finger.
