Hell yeah I hate that! At least Jason is gentle with dogs. A dog survived in part 8 and I think in part 2.

I hate it when Dogs bite the dust in flicks, Dogs kick ass. I really felt bad for the dog and the owner in Jaws.

I love dogs, I have a little Rottweiler named Damien, and I had a chocolate lab named Candyman http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif. Whenever dogs die, it really bothers me. Like it ruined Hollow Man for me when he killed that dog. And it seems like a dog dies in every other Halloween movie! What the fuck?!
Hooray for me (and for dogs goddammit!)

A dog died in the Toxic Avenger. It wasn't the sickest dog death, but it did get shot.

A dog died in JAWS I didn't know that.
The only time a dog should die is if its evil like Cujo.

The one in Alien 3 is the greatest dog death of all time!

Yep dogs have it rough as well in the genre. Ruthie's dog in Candyman gets it messy while the Tall Man runs over a dog with his hearse in Phantasm Oblivion. The worst has to Francesa's dog in Bride of Re-Animator. First being flung around by a zombie police detective then being reanimated by West with a human arm.
It was rough seeing Atticus Finch shoot the rabid dog in To Kill A Mockingbird as well.

That scene bothered me. I have a soft spot for labrador retrievers, and to see one with its entrails hanging out was tough to sit through.
MINOR SPOILER FOR AMERICAN PSYCHO
Another "canine cruelty" scene takes place in American Psycho. After stabbing a bum, Patrick stomps a small dog to smithereens.

Dog named "Thor" gets some claws in "bad Moon", I really liked that because that dog survived it and beat the fucking werewolf.

Agreed. Babies are (to me) ugly and annoying. Sorry, It's just how I feel. They can be cute on occasion though.

Three Golden Retrievers: Toby in AFRAID OF THE DARK, Gordon in FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 4, and the puppy in SINGLE WHITE FEMALE.
Also, the German Shepherds in HALLOWEEN and FEAR, the Huskies in THE THING remake (damn you, John Carpenter!), and that poor dog in THE FLY II!
My dog Pepper died (of congestive heart failure) in February, so I have a soft spot for canine kills in any movie...but the horror genre has been especially cruel to man's best friend.

I HATe dog deaths in horror movies. It really makes me sick.
~~There are a few that really bothered me..
~~CANDYMAN DOG DECAPITATION!!! I cannot stand to watch that entire scene..
~~In The Doom Genoration, there's a scene where a character slits a dog's throat. The first time I saw that scene i Cried. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif
~~The dog strangling scene in Either Halloween 1 or 2. I think it's oart one though...

Man, Michael meyers has issues, he is cool and all but I wouldn't have a dog strangled by a chain at my house, man I like max the canine tramp according to the annoying Tina the most of any dogs of Halloween 5 including sundae.

How about the little half-dogs from Return of the Living Dead? They were actually pretty fucking funny looking.
The only dog death that really bothered me was when Kevin Bacon slammed that dog against the wall in Hollow Man.
Not horror but how about the dog getting killed in NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION?
That was a nasty one. ;)

Yeah, the dog deaths in SIGNS were especially cruel (and my only beef with this otherwise superior film). I mean, I would never have left my dog in the yard or barn or wherever. I understand Rory Culkin's self-defense kill of the male German Shepherd, but the Hess family could have taken Isabelle into the basement with them during the finale.

It certainly was, but Herbert West gives it life....along with a human arm!

I'd much rather see a dead human than a dead canine. Call me crazy, that's just the way I am. I think because people are generally selfish, pretentious bastards (excluding the people on the board of course), while a dog is just this innocent little creature, all furry and oblivious to the evil of the world.
This post makes me sound a lot more cynical than I really am.
Hooray for me.

<PET SEMATARY 2 SPOILERS... AND IT'S NOT A DOG DYING http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif>
Hey, FUCK DOGS!
And why haven't there been many cat deaths (that's CAT deaths, not COT deaths, before someone reads it wrong and calls me sick)?
I can probably count on one or two hands how many cat deaths I've seen in a horror. You'd think with the amount of "cat scares" you get, at least a couple of them'd get the chop.
However, the only ones I can think of at this precise moment is the kittens in Pet Sematary 2.

While cats usually aren’t in as much danger as dogs and usually serve as a scare they aren’t immune to death in horror movies. It is weird because I am more effected by animal deaths then human ones in the movies.
In Argento’s Inferno, the shop owner abusing all those cats is tough for me to watch. In Alice, Sweet Alice, Alice throws one of Alfonso’s cats through the air to escape a precarious situation while he screams that she killed it. Of course Megan’s cat Rufus gets experimented on by West in Re-Animator. “Don’t expect it to boogie, it’s got a broken back.” Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers isn’t a cat friendly movie but they do team up in the end to attack the woman.
To get back on topic I don’t think anyone’s mentioned Prince the doberman in The People Under the Stairs
