How this question can be asked is beyond me. The first NOES will never be beaten by the shitty second one!

Now I prefer the first it was a well crafted suspenseful flick with a truly scary villian. But I think you are all being too hard on the sequel. It continues the dark premise of the first one and builds on it a bit. It's not great but it is certainly entertaining and sometimes funny(whether it was meant to be or not).

Forget the fact that Freddy's Revenge disposed of the Elm Street rulebook (were there even any set rules when the sequel was made?). It maintained Freddy's sinister personality and kept things bleak. And how could you not be creeped out by the "bedroom" scene? It's the most underrated flick in the series. Be that as it may, the original is still superior. There are more endearing characters to get attached to and not as many homoerotic undertones to cackle at. However, I can't forgive Craven for the clumsy, illogical third act.

the first one, ive always hated part 2, in fact it's one of the worst movies ever in my opinion, sure there are worse, but it was such a dissaponment, and i just put it there
part 1 is good. part 2 is not. therefore i am votign for part 1.

I'm surprised anyone even has to ask! The first was good, the second was mediocre at best!
NOES = 7/10
NOES 2 = 5/10

I agree with countchocula. The first was much better, but it DID have a clumsy third act where Freddy became wimpy and not scary. If you watch the scene where he is about to stab Nancy in the back, you'll notice that he doesn't have his glove on. The second movie was bad because of a bad script. The gayish scenes were out of place in this movie, and it didn't follow the rules set by the original. Plus, the ending sucked. However, it did provide a creepy atmosphere because of the darkly lit lighting and spooky photography. Sometimes cheaper means creepier. Also, Freddy was still quite brutal and menacing in this flick, and they kept him in the dark most of the time. While the "Pool Scene" wasn't very logical, I still found it to be mucho fun, and it was great how he vanished after walking into the wall. The scene where he jumped through the glass was also cool. Slightly underated with some good scenes and a good Freddy, but still pretty bad. Part four is probably my least favorite in the series. Five is probably equal in its mediocrety.

I havnt seen Freddy's Revenge but I do think the original is overrated. Its still great but just overrated,thats all. But I should probably rent Freddys Revenge because Ive only seen the original,parts of 6, and A New Nightmare. I need to see them all but my blockbuster doesnt carry many Nightmare On Elm Streets. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif
guess its off to Hollywood Video..they have a big selection of horror.

David Chaskin, who wrote the incoherent Freddy's Revenge, apparently did not see the first one. He ignores almost every rule that was in place. The only thing they kept was Freddy's dark persona. It's a good thing this one was completely ignored when it came to the release of part 3. I bought the DVD box set awhile ago, but have yet to watch Freddy's Revenge.
ANOES easily, though the sequel is not terrible, It's cheesy enough to be construed as Horror-Comedy imo, Not necessarily a bad thing. Freddy's dark persona is also a plus.

I thought it was quite creepy when Jessie is in the kitchen and he sees Freddy outside, and also when he is confronted by Freddy after coming out of the basement. If this movie had a better beginning and a better ending, I think people would enjoy it much more. The scene where Jessie opens the door and finds those little girls jump roping was great. Other than a few other scenes, I felt that it was not as good as it could have been. The original IS slightly overated, but it's much better, and, Craven is the man. I always wondered why the ending of New Nightmare was so silly? Did the studio force Craven to end it on a nice note? Why????

Without a doubt the original is the greater movie. Not to say I hate the sequel but the original was more original and had better characters. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.
