Hey everyone. Which of these two successful Clive Barker adaptations do you think is better?
As much as I love Hellraiser, I'd have to give Canydman the slight edge.
What do you think?

id say candyman. hellraiser was good, but it was kinda slow. candyman was scary as hell and tony todd kicked ass as the demon candyman.

Candyman gets my vote. Hellraiser was genuinely unsettling and morose, but it focused on two of the most unlikable characters of all time, Frank and Julia. Kirsty should have been in the limelight. Also, excluding Ashley Laurence and Doug Bradley, the acting wasn't that impressive. Candyman was a much more engrossing tale and gave birth to one of the few horror icons of the '90s. Tony Todd is haunting and seductive at the same time, taking a cue from Bela Lugosi with his penetrating stare. The score is magnificent, the acting is top-notch, and the blood is dark red. "Be my victim..."
Candyman-4.5/5
Hellraiser-3/5

I cant say, both to me are very good movies, that got terrible sequels. they were both spooky, so i'll just say i like hellrasier just a little more then candyman, both are great, and pretty much not as bad as clive's other works *cough* rawhead rex, nightbreed *cough* I should watch these movies again, there 2 of the few movies that are spooky(but not scary). i say hellraiser because i think pinhead is cooler then candyman, but thats just me.

This is a tough one as I loooooove both movies, but I think I'm leaning towards 'Candyman'.
I found 'Hellraiser' to be more gross than scary....on the other hand, 'Candyman' spooked the crap outta me when I first saw it.

Candyman is much better. It was actually scary. Hellraiser is a wicked little flick, but doesn't compare to Candyman.

Definitely Candmyman if its a comparision of individual films, its too bad it only got followed up with a so-so sequel, then a poorly executed dtv sequel. Candyman was the best horror icon born in the 90's imo, Dr. Lecter and Ghostface are both a close second though.

Candyman for me. hellraiser's great but candyman still manages to scare the shit out of me if i watch it along at night. so it definetly gets my vote.

Note: I only said Hellraiser because if it wasn't for Hellraiser 1, Inferno would have never existed!

"CANDYMAN"!!! I think "Hellraiser" is one of the worst horror series' around. Complete and total snooze. Tony Todd totally rocked in the original "Candyman" and the entire film is genuinely creepy. Doesn't hold a candle to "Smellraiser".

HELLRAISER = 7/10
CANDYMAN = 6/10
The latter was interesting, but uneven. The first part was pretty good, but it becomes too "slasher-like" for my tastes. HR isn't perfect but I think it holds up better.

I said Hellrasier, because I do like the first Hellrasier more then any of the candyman's, candyman was good, but those sequels are terrible, but then again every sequel to Hellraiser was terrible too. so they have that in common too ;D, I still say Hellrasier, because Pinhead is the cooler villian

As much as I love Pinhead, CANDYMAN has an advantage.
Where HELLRAISER is an all-out gore fest, CANDYMAN serves well as a psychological profile of Helen, and a gore fest that is bitter-sweet and sad when you consider her fate.
The acting is also a little better since Pinhead's role in the HELLRAISER movie wasn't as defined as the Candyman's, and I love Tony Todd's performance. He commanded the screen.
HELLRAISER has the advantage of having a better sequel but CANDYMAN has this je ne sais quois about it. It has atmosphere and that score by Phillip Glass that causes ripples down my spine whenever I watch it.
HELLRAISER is revolutionary, kinky, and perhaps one of the best 80'S horrors, but CANDYMAN maintains a certain class in the end.

You think so? Candyman is a much cooler horror icon than Pinhead imo. He stands about 6'4" with a long hook attatched to his arm, oh yeah he also dressed very nicely, lol. His voice is just chilling, where as Pinhead just has an aggressive tone. Candyman's more of a bad @ss than Pinhead imo, Pinhead is just Pinhead...

I find pinhead much scarier...CM is just a BIG guy. Period (. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif)
Pinhead has hooks grippling his flesh open, a gridded head and pins in the intersections!! he speaks like lowly pitched and his eyes are completely black, also, he can call hooks to tear you apart whenever he wants...well...IMO
Candyman. But only because I have some weird attraction to Ted Raimi.

Woops, I'm sorry. I must've had a brain tumor for breakfast. He had the small part in the beginning. I like Ted Raimi, too. He was great in "Skinner".

I loved both Hellraiser and Candyman,but I have to say that CM is much more accesible to mainstream movies,than Hellraiser is.
They both feature Characters that are thrust into worlds they cannot control,while Hellraiser pushed the envelope on gore,I never found it remotely scary at all.
Candyman was a scary movie on all levels,and that is why it became a sleeper hit.
Hellraiser-8/10
Candyman-9.5/10
