AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMEN (1982)

Drama/Romance

starring- Richard Gere, loise Gossett Jr, Debra Winger, David Keith

plot- a young man who`s not sure about his future joins the the United States Navy to become a pilot. he learns that he must become "an officer and a gentlemen" first....

review- drama at it`s finest! i do consider AOAAG to be a classic film that doesn`t get enough attention and is highly underrated!
Louise Gossett jr. won an oscar for his role as the tough military drill sargeant that has to instruct Zach Mayo (Richard Gere) in what it takes to be an officer in the US military! Zach also has to learn what it means to be a gentlemen. he figures out what it means through the help and love of a woman he meets (Debra Winger) at a naval dance...

i don`t have any major complaints about this film except maybe for the ending... it was a little cheesy but it was also a great ending!

****spoiler****

i didn`t like the part when lynette yelled "way to go paula, way to go" that was very cheesy! and all those people cheering was kind of.... well.... not believeable?

****end spoiler***

at any rate- i would highly recommend this film to anyone that likes great acting centered around a good solid story! or anyone that has a soft spot for romantic films! it`s really a great movie! and i would probably put it on my top 30 films of all time list!

final score- 8.0 out of ten
