Osmosis Jones - 6/10

I managed to catch this one on HBO today. I can't say it was great, nor can I say it was less than I expected (I actually expeted a lot worse). I didn't even know until the credits rolled up that it was produced by the Farrelly Brothers -- I mean where do they come up with all these Sub-par movies? Other than Me, Myself, & Irene, they haven't done a really funny one since Something About Mary.
Anyway, Chris Rock's animated character was a little less than expected (seeing that this was dropped down to PG rating rather than PG-13 as originally planned, I guess he was ok).. He & 'Drix' popped a few funnies that made me laugh out loud (Drix:"No, the other dangly thing!")..all the little cell and germ characters had their livelihood, and the invasion was brought to live in it's nastiest, most disgusting form possible (thanks Farrelys). Bill Murray's character made me smile here and there as the hygein-deprived zooman.
Aside for a lot of poor CGI, a pure PG-rating, and way too many creatures to keep up with, I suppose I did have some fun in the 'City of Frank' with this harmless little film.

It's Warner Bros.' own fault that their animated productions do as much business as a butcher at a convention of vegetarians. They always pick the least interesting ideas to work with in the first place; really, how can you sell an animated version of THE KING AND I to a group of six-year-olds? It's the fault of movies like that and QUEST FOR CAMELOT that ruin it for the occasional good cartoon feature to come from the brothers Warner, namely 1999's wonderful THE IRON GIANT, one of that year's best films but nevertheless a box office disaster. But in addition, it's not like Warner Bros. tries to even spice up their animated features with a little style, tending to be more bland and lifeless than anything the competitors have in store. Consider OSMOSIS JONES a step in the right direction. Spiked with a recognizable vocal cast, a groovy visual style, and body-related jokes coming out the wazoo (no pun intended), OSMOSIS JONES proves to be Warner's liveliest animated product to date. The film embodies just about everything a little kid could ask for in a cartoon, namely gross humor and potty jokes galore. But what would normally lead to a different movie's moral downfall benefits OSMOSIS JONES; this is a 90-minute slice of potty humor, but I'll be damned if it doesn't represent an inventive high for the same studio that gave us THE SWAN PRINCESS II.
Great voicework, amusing live-action actors (Bill Murray remains a comedic god among actors), zippy animation...an imperfect set of jokes that nonetheless scores some decent laughs...All is well in the near-brilliant land of OSMOSIS JONES.
MY RATING: 9/10
