Super Troopers is the first movie from the comedy troupe Broken Lizard. It is the story of a group of highway cops who screw around and raise hell. Through all of this there is a plot that involves the characters trying to save their department by prooving their worth -- Just like in Police Acadamy!
Well, Super Troopers had the makings of a comedy, meaning it had jokes. However, I found these jokes to be very not funny. It wasn't that they were too offensive, or too shocking, they were just bland, bland, bland. It is painstaking to write this review because there is so little to be said about this flick. I am a sucker for comedy troupes, and effort, but I honestly felt that Broken Lizsrd was selling themselves short with this vehicle.
The strongest part of the film was from the characters acting really doppy, and zonked. Take for instance the great scene from the trailer where the cop tells a stoned kid he was going 63mph. When asked if the speed limit is 65, he replies, "Yeah, it is." And it was hillarious. The way he mutters these words works because it is so out of key for a cop. However, the movie goes away from this premise by making the cops solve a big case, and by having them more malicious than they should be. In short, the movie takes too many trips with its tone.
I am not ruling out Broken Lizard. I'm all down with seeing these guys live, or in a 26 minute dose. However, Super Troopers was not my bag.
Oh, and I actually thought the jokes that were in the trailer were less funny in the movie. Also, I found the bear gag to be a highlight.

I just saw this with my friend and he liked it just as much as i did. Pretty much every joke was really funny and these guys that i never heard of before were very funny. The Guy that says "do we look the two dumbist guys in the world" was the funniest. There were some funnier parts then the commerical showed and some of the shit was gross. The scenes were they fucked with peoples minds were the best.
All the characters in the movie were funny. The dark skined guy who nobody knew where he was from(who is also the director) was funny. The fat asshole was pretty good(especially at the burger place)and so was the flasher. There was also the rookie which gave the movie some gross parts(example: the bear)and then there was the guy i said was the funniest, he had mostley all the funny parts that had to do with slapstick. There were no really big stars in it, thats probaly why i liked it more.
The directing was good but there wasn't much to do other then make them look their having a good time.
I give it a 7.5\10

i thought there were quite a few funny parts in this movie. It really wasn't much of a movie persay, but the comedic momements in it were enough for me. If you don't care a lot about plot then this movie is for you. I went in not expecting one, and I was able to enjoy it that way. 7/10 or 2 1/2 stars

This movie (like Evoloution) will hold a special place in my heart. Why? Because it was pure fun.
I loved the dialoge and the "Steve Zahn" look alike cracked me up.
In a movie like this the plot and story line comes last and the anticts and comedy come first, and this is one movie you can tell the comedy is far ahead of the story.
The only beef I have is the mid section of the movie seemed to drag and the chuckles are few and far between....other than that....and good enjoyable time at the movies.

Super Troopers - 6/10

This harmless comedy succeeds in taking a group of nameless talents and producing a quite decent amount of laughs. However, I did not watch this movie in theaters, because of my predictions (which btw were correct) that the biggest laughs were going to be given away in the trailer, and the bulk of the movie would just be a rollar-coaster of hit-and-miss jokes. It screamed "Wait for the video" all the way, and because I did, I am able to say that I was at least somewhat entertained.
A premiere movie for Broken Lizard, eh? I really had no idea, nor did I have a clue that this was at the sundance film festival nearly two years ago. It nods to Police Academy in a very big way, only that where that movie had a top-notch story, this one seems to be comprised of a lot of sketches that remained unedited for the most part, and the story took a back seat. The deeper I went into the movie, the less I cared about the whole 'we gotta straighten up or be discarded' plot, I just wanted to see all the jokes!
A few of the laughs are memorable. I can name my 3 favorites off immediately - the opening scene (trailer giveaway), the scene involving an eventual fistfight between a couple of the 'troopers' and a fast food geek (watching it on the hidden camera afterwards was a scream), and a scene in a trailer where all the cops are fighting for their life against a hog.... excellent. I also enjoyed the overall kick of watching the cops haggling with the unsuspecting citizens - such as the 'meow' ticket and the old couple getting called "chicken fuckers" ... haha. Then there were some jokes that didn't work for me - such as the cow-banger (what the hell was that all about anyway?), the supposed humor in the showers with everyone pouring powdered sugar on this one dude (they even had to throw in a pecker shot... blech)... and I think somewhere halfway through the middle it just kinda got a little dull as the "story" was starting to be developed.
It seems that Broken Lizard was wanting to premiere a movie along the magnitude of the Farrelly Brothers' era. Though I won't boost their ego that much by saying they accomplished it, they did manage to give the usually artsy Fox Searchlight Pictures the nicest comedy since Office Space 3 years ago. With work, this comedy troope could be promising!
More on these nameless actors -- I don't recall one single person in this flick having a major role in another movie. Having said that, they did a really good job. The dark guy (mexican? asian? whatever he was....) was prolly the "Bubba Smith" character (Police Academy) of Super Troopers. The rest, although not very distinguished, gave me many a snicker. These infants to acting seemed to have better abilities than some of our big stars this year.
Point being, it's out of theaters now, so without the annoyance of watching a less-than-expected movie in theaters, I believe you'll enjoy a video rental of this one.

If there’s ever a movie that people say isn’t as bad as it looks or what critics say, don’t agree with them. That’s what I did with Super Troopers. It’s a misguided non tour-de-farce that has no idea where it’s going. In fact, to make the obligatory pun, this movie could be called Super Poopers, since that’s what this movie basically is and what most of the “jokes” consist of.
The slim-to-none plot is about highway patrolmen who like to mess with the people they pull over. However, the “evil” state police men are going to take over their highway (gasp!) so they must save it.
The bad guys were all too clear-cut, not leaving any mystery or suspense for us to follow. Of course, my DVD player did go on the fritz twice, but I don’t think I missed anything. In fact, I’m glad it did. There’s so many things wrong, what should I begin with?
First, I’ll go with the non-jokes. In the beginning I may have chuckled around twice, but soon fell through a giant hole. There are constant drug and sex jokes that aren’t funny. The slapstick wasn’t even funny; I usually fall for that. It all seemed a bit too rushed and tried to throw in a meaningless plot instead of making this an “SNL-movie”. Personally, I think an idea like this would work better in variety show cases. The “one-joke” premise got wasted early on. Plus, the movie seemed to run out of steam in the end.
I also thought that all of the swearing was added in to try to attract a larger audience; it certainly wasn’t necessary and definitely seemed not to fit in. Too many characters were thrown in, just like all of the unoriginal movies like this. How are we supposed to keep them straight if we don’t know anything about them?
I didn’t buy any of the chemistry between the troopers and the police; in fact, it was laughingly bad. Hey, just like the rest of the movie!

I was really dissapointed in this movie. It started out so good and then it seemed like in the middle of the show, they switched the screenwriter for someone else to continue the story. The beginning was so freakin hilarious and then it decided to really gross you out because they thought, "Well, maybe this will get them to laugh." A lot of my friends loved Super Troopers, but I thought it was completely stupid and on the 2nd half of the film I didn't laugh once.
Super Troopers- 2/10 :(

My god, this movie sucked ass! I can't believe I sat through this. I apologize for all who liked it, because the majority did like it in this forum, but I thought the plot was really dull and what started out as a solid comedy, it just transcened into a bunch of cliche's and sex/fart humor. Hell, there really was no transition! This movie made me laugh once or twice in the first scene, but afterward I was longing for it to be over.
Sorry this couldn't have been longer bc it's been so long since I've seen it and there's no way in hell I'm going to watch it again.
2/10
