REEL DEAL Before the second installment of ''Rings'' hits theaters next Christmas, the franchise will be hit by a Miramax spoof. The studio's Dimension Films arm announced it's developing ''Scary Movie 3: Episode I -- Lord of the Brooms,'' to be released next fall. As the unwieldy title suggests, the film will also parody the ''Harry Potter' and ''Star Wars'' series. As with the first two ''Scary Movies,'' with their ''Scream'' send-ups, Miramax chiefs Bob and Harvey Weinstein are biting the hand that feeds them, since they're credited as executive producers on the ''Rings'' movies, on which they helped get the ball rolling before New Line snapped up the project.

I must say I'm pretty happy about this news. This just might give the dying Scary Movie series the boost it needs and could gross more than Scary Movie 2. If they take their time on it I think it will be pretty cool. But now that means I have to see Harry Potter and The Lord Of The Rings or I won't get the jokes. Oh well, I'll see those two movies just for Scary Movie 3, it probably wouldn't be that funny if I didn't.

One thing though, Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter aren't exactly "scary movies" but will still be spoofed in the third installment of "Scary Movie"? That's what I thought. Oh well, if it's funny, who cares. At least I'll get to see Anna Faris again.

What does everyone think of this and will you see it?

Ill give 1-10 odds that they will "exploit" the fact that black people arent in LOTR or Harry Potter.

10-1 odds they will get Sam Jackson to cameo his role from Star Wars

EVEN odds marlon wayans will play that role.

4-5 odds that a character similar to arwen will be played by anna faris and that she will give head to one of the other warrior guys (or better yet, a horse).

The problem I had with Scary Movie is that I felt it was too predictable.. Now that you know what 80% of the jokes are (look above) hopefully you will see it isnt that funny.

I'd say Scary Movie 3 will make just over half of what Scary Movie 2 made. Lord of the Rings is pretty scary but I definatly don't consider Star Wars nor Harry Potter suitable basis for a Scary Movie spoof.

The reason I haven't seen LOTR and Harry Potter is because of the hype, I hate hype, the more I hear about a movie the less I want to see it, especially if it's a big Blockbuster movie. Plus I didn't think Harry Potter looked that great. But LOTR actually does look pretty good, and I will see it when it comes out on video, because at the moment, I am really sick of hearing about it. The only main movie I want to see really bad right now is The Business Of Strangers but that's in limited release. Most of the movies out right now in theaters look dumb. I like spoofs and I think Scary Movie 3 will be better than the second one, it shouldn't be as rushed plus it has a direction to go in, it knows what it will be spoofing, with Scary Movie 2 it seems like they made it up as they went along. Anyway, yes, I will see Scary Movie 3, sometimes it's nice just to go to the movies and leave your brain at the door and have a good time, and that's what spoof movies are to me, a good time. I LOVE SPOOFS, I even found REPOSSESSED funny. If you don't like them, fine, but I do.

And Harry Potter was boring, but it is not even in the same Universe as FOTR, not hype, fact.

What is the problem you have with the fact that he has not seen this movie yet.
I doubt that he was being 100% serious when he said he's watch Harry Potter and LOTR so he could understand Scary Movie 3. This may now be another incentive for him to go and see those 2 movies, but why should anyone be put down for that.

Yeah, I'm really excited about the prospects that Scary Movie 3 will breathe life into this series that is loved world wide. After Scary Movie, the years 1999-2000 were prosperous for the creators of the series, but once the second installment came out back in 2001, the series saw some bad times. It's been a hard 10 - 15 months for the fans, but the creative minds are sure to tie it all together with part 3. Hell, just tell me when to stand in line to buy tickets and I'm there dressed up in an afro wig!

I'm a sucker for over the top spoofs,that have a certain honesty and lightheartedness at it's core.Especially when my favorite films are spoofed,that's even more hilarious.


Some of these directors and actors/actresses take themselves way too seriously,it's great when someone points out the pretentiousness and silliness of it all with regards to filmmaking,an inherently pretentious endeavor in it's own right.Some just happen to be more entertaining,intriguing,and/or important pretentiousness.


Lets not lose a sense of humor about all this,i'm sure even some of the more famous and succesful directors get a laugh from their creations.after all it's a world that does'nt really exist(unless it's a Documentary of course),and they are making tons of money as a result.

I'm looking foward to this,it's the perfect antidote to directors and actors who take themselves and their creations far too seriously.And even without a plot,part 2 was still pretty damn funny,there were some genuine laugh out loud moments in there,but i admit some bits just fell totally flat.


Plus,LOTR is ripe for the comedic treatment.It's a favorite of mine,but come on there was some cheesy dialogue in it,that can really work as a spoof.I'm high on this sequel,if they take their time and do some research with regards to the films they are spoofing,it could work.

People,here's an example of an elitist,who can't take a joke.To narrow minded to enjoy both LOTR and a film such as Scary Movie.

I got sucked in because i rented both of them,and liked it(2 more than one)?That's a joke,and that statement is not only insulting,but presumptive also.


You don't know what i like,and somehow just because i would'nt mind a sequel to SM that spoofs you're "sacred" LOTR franchise,you think i'm some perverse braindead teenager with no taste in film.


The more i watch LOTR,the more i'm starting to realize just how overrrated it really is.There i said it,it's not the phenomenal achievement i thought it was originally.It's starting to look like a spoof more than anything,more comedic than dramatic.Cheesy dialogue,self concious performances(OB looks like some hippie from the 70's),over the top action sequences,overly dramatic music.But in spite of it all i still like it,just not as much as i once did.


So,a spoof of this film would,or could be hilarious,but there is no guarantee.


Just so you know,filmmaking is inherently pretentious.The ones that think it has some higher purpose are the most pretentious of the lot.


And did you ever think that the crew that will work on this film may have kids,and a paycheck will go a long way to feeding those kids.You wrote something about starving children,so this is a way they can be taken care of,work.It may not be work you approve of because of your high cinematic standards,but it will help pay someon'es mortgage and put food on the table.


And if i'm not mistaken,you're beloved PJ started out in the film business making over the top gross out gore fests.How soon people forget.I think it's something people try to forget.You can't,Bad Taste,Meet the Feebles,Dead Alive,they're all out there for all the world to see.


Guess it's allright for PJ to make a film of this style but not anyone else.

i would just like to say that i dont think the wayans guys made scary movie 1 and 2 for you people who only care about "rediscovering someone else under yourself". they made it to make fun of scary movies and even though it shouldnt be called "scary movie" now i dont think they should call it "adventure movie" . i think the whole scary movie title is just saying that its a spoof movie now, since there is this one now.

in conclusion, spoof movies arent supposed to win best picture, they are meant to make people laugh which it did perfectly in scary movie 1 all the way through, and in scary movie 2 for the opening and the guy with the munted hand.
