This was a good movie. I didn't think it was the greatest though. The casting was good, as well as the directing. It was a little longer than it should have been. If you are into historical action movies, then go see this one!

Patriot? Is this one of the biggest misnamed movies? How can a man that sits idly by, doing nothing, while is fellow man is slaughtered, only taken arms when his "own" family is threatened, be called a "Patriot"? How can someone who reluctantly enters a war, to defend his own land, be a Patriot? He was a great soldier, he was strong, skilled....but he wasn't a patriot and the movie quite clearly demonstrated and displayed that!

Don't historical records show that Mel Gibsons character was not a nice man, and did bad things, which the movie didn't show naturally. Why not just call it "One great warrior". I don't get it....the storyline shows quite clearly why you can't call him a Patriot, so why did they name this movie as such??

I loved the movie as it was, I just have a huge problem with calling him a "patriot"

Flag-waver movie made for idiots. Cartoonish characters. Blatant manipulation. The only redeeming parts were the battle scenes, showing the brutality of war when it was up-close-and-personal.

I was really stoked to watch this when it first came out. I figured, "Hey its about time we get a decent Revolutionary war flick!"

Boy was I wrong.

The storyline was slow, the dialogue felt like it was lifted straight out of an episode of Schoolhouse Rock and there were too many pretentious scenes to even list. (Naturally it was Gibson's character to carry the flag in the ultra slo-mo melodramatic charging sequence. Oi vey.)

The only parts I liked was when we first see Mel go apeshit with his tomahawk and when the villain kills Heath Ledger.

THE PATRIOT has some cool scenes (see Mel Gibson's first tomahawk attack on soldiers), some nice acting (see Gibson, Heath Ledger, Tcheky Karyo and Jason Isaacs), and some sweet shots. But unfortunately, it's all it's got: the movie is too long and too slow, way too clichéd, way too predictable, the dialogue cheesy and painful to hear, and even the battle scenes (which were good) weren't as good as the best (say BRAVEHEART or GLADIATOR). Yes, for me this movie was a disappointment. It was entertaining, but I was hoping it would be better.

The Patriot

Rated R for Graphic War Violence and Gore.

The Patriot is one cliche after another. We have the war hero with a terrible past, the father's kids wanting to fight, the romance, and the deaths of family. But other than those draw backs, this is well made, graphic, and well acted film. There's not much more to say than that. The cinematography is breath taking and Mel Gibson's performance is dead on.

My rating- 7/10

Gore- Tons of Graphic violence, heads blown off, legs blown off, heads burst when hit with bullets.

Nudity- Nope.

definitely liked it. one of my favourites. was a bit too gory but was a great movie overall. i must've watched it three times in a row i just couldn't stop. if it wouldn't be for the fact that mel gibson is in that new movie "the passion" i would call it my second favourite.

One of my 5 favorites from 2000, although, that's not saying much because look what that year produced. Some of the scenes are a bit chessy and over-dramatic, but overall, this is quite an entertaining flick and I think, is some-what underrated by movie-goers. I don't really consider this film to be sad because people die every day and it's a part of life. Hollywood is not going to make me sad by seeing a family torn apart through war...and their agnozing struggle...I felt for them when the acting was strong and they had good moments. Not when Mel Gibson is holding someone who was shot screaming "NNOOOOOO" in that over-dramatic-movie-kind-of-way lol. anyway. I really enjoyed this film, and although a bit long. It's something I could watch a few more times. Definately one of the better war movies of the 00's

The Patriot was the 1st dvd(also a new dvd release) that I bought when I got my first dvd player. I was totally amazed with this movie.
I really loved when Mel Gibson hides with his sons in the trees and starts shooting. I cranked up my Home Theater system up.

Overall, I think this movie is good. The battle scenes were amazing. I will be happy to watch it again. The story made you feel like you were a part in it. The killing of a loved one would make anybody do what they had to do. I thougt the acting was just great.
