Honestly, it was a good movie. And I agree with JoBlo in that you're either one side or the either.... However, about the ending, it was in the book anyway, and since the movie IS based on the book...well, I don't think Nicholas Sparks wanted it changed. Yes, AWTR is cheezy ("You." "Me."), but it is at least positive in such a negative world. At least they can act. I can't wait till Crossroads :P

A Walk To Remember was a very impressive teen film, on many levels.
The story is simply about a popular guy who gets in trouble and has to do volunteer work for his bad deeds and ends up falling in love with the town's wallflower girl, the Reverends daughter.
Shane West (TV's Once And Again) stars as Landon, the popular bad boy. West is a great talent. He is the core of the film and does a fantastic job.
Teen Pop singer Mandy Moore stars as Jamie, the wallflower whom Landon falls in love with. I was very impressed with her performance, the girl can act and she is very very cute.
A Walk To Remember is cliched and melodramatic but I didn't mind it. Much like last years Life As A HOuse it was a manipulative tearjerker and like that film, it works here.
This film is a story of faith and love. Never too preachy, yet just enough, I enjoyed this film immensely.
In these turbulent times in the world right now, A Walk To Remember is a breath of fresh air.

This moive really surprised me. I orginally went to go see this movie casue I thought Mandy Moore was hot, and me and my friends were bored. But i really started getting into the movie towards teh middle and end.
Sure some of the elements in the movie were annoying. Like the black guy being the sterotypical black guy in all teen movies, and some things being unbeleivable. But over all the movie was good.
Shane West is a good actor, and Mandy Moore was surprising in this movie. Girl can also act, as wel as sing. Hope to see her in more movies.
8/10 ->Go see this movie

A Walk to Remember, I thought was a very good movie for who they selected to play the roles. I read the book last year and it is one of favorites, the book is actually based on his sister's life. I'm not sure how but that's what it says in the back. When I found out this book was being made into a movie I became upset cause I didn't want the book ruined for anyone that hadn't read it yet. The book takes a much more adult tone to it because the story is being told by a 45 year old man. But I knew the movie wouldn't be as good as the book so i got a free ticket and went to the flick. Now to talk about the movie a little more. It was not the best I've ever seen, but it's hard to decide on what is. I usually do not appreciate teen movies in the slightest I think they show too much of a teenagers true colors and most of them get off on that. But I thought this had more meaning to it than say "She's all That" now true it is the same basic story, but this is a different take on it because "Landon" fell in love with "Jamie" because of what kind of a person she was, and she was nice to everyone and he decided he didn't care what anyone else thought. Now all the other teen movies try to depict this thought too, but I think this movie pulls that off much better than any i have ever seen before. And maybe I only say this because I loved the book so much, but we'll never really know.

A Walk To Remember (2002)
Rated PG for Thematic Elements, Language, & Some Sensuality
Director:Adam Shankman
Starring Shane West, Mandy Moore, Peter Coyote, & Daryl Hannah.
http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Ss/0281358/C38-34.jpg
The film's plot focuses on Landon Carter(Shane West)who's life is changed forever after meeting a sweet girl, Jaime Sullivan(Mandy Moore).
You know, I really tried to force myself to like something about this film. But in the end, I failed to do so. The acting, what can I say, it was just OK. Nothing good, nothing great, and certainly nothing oscar-caliber. Every character each actor played were boring, dull, and uninteresting. They also did nothing to make me feel for them in an emotional or caring way. I also would like to know what the hell were Peter Coyote & Daryl Hannah doing in this film. Are they desperate for a role, or what? I think they would be better off relaxing in their mansions.
Another problem I had with this film, was the fact that there were some things I found to be very silly. For instance, the dialogue. It was really cheesy and corny. It didn't feel real at all. And last but not least, the ending. It was fakey, and it was poorly done.
A Walk To Remember is just a typical teenage romantic-drama, and like the rest of the pack, it was boring as hell. IMO, this is one of those films that will make you look at your watch most of the time. Well, at least, that's what I did. If you like these type of films, then by all means, go and see this film. But if not, try to avoid it. One more thing, A Walk To Remember's title should be changed, and instead, it should be called A Walk To Forget.
Running Time:1 hour 41 minutes
Grade:4/10

A WALK TO REMEMBER
Starring Shane West, Mandy Moore, Darryl Hannah
Directed by Adam Shankman
Rating: 8/10
This movie suprised me. My mom payed me to take my sister to this movie and it wasn't bad at all. SUPRISINGLY good performance by Mandy Moore as well as an excellent performance by the talented Shane West. The plot didn't seem fake or cheesy to me except for one thing. Landon's punishment from the principal seemed unrealistic, but other than that it had a good message and was a very real, sincere story, unlike most teen flicks. I didn't think the dialogue was that cheesy at all compared to what I saw in the trailer for Attack of the Clones. The ending didn't bother me either. She didn't die in vain. She changed Landon's life in many ways, and she changed other people's lives as well. A very positive, uplifting film among many that are the complete opposite.

A WALK TO REMEMBER was actually better than I expected. I thought it looked like a piece of crap from the trailer and TV spots, but it was actually enjoyable. The story is about Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore), an unpopular girl who Landon Carter (Shane West) falls for. He is popular, though, and does not want to be seen with her. But their love grows into something more than friendship. The downside is that once you find out why this movie is a tearjerker, it goes downhill, filled with corny moments, so many that I was actually laughing at the end. Overall it gets a 6/10.

Two thumbs way up as Ebert and Roeper would say. This movie had surprisingly good performances by both Mandy Moore and Shane West. I have always been critical of singers who become actors, but this movie changed my opinion about MM (Though I STILL refuse to go see Britney's movie). A Walk to remember, the book, by Nicholas Sparks has been my fav book since i bought it a year ago. I almost cried with joy when i hears they were making it a movie. (Note: this is the only book/movie that has ever been able to make me cry). Nevertheless, in the true spirit of Hollywood, they manage to smash the book into bits and pieces, then re construct it the way they like it...but not necessarily in a bad way. I still liked the movie, though not as much as i love the book. The main issue is the ending, depite the thousands of details and other events they destroyed. In the book, she doesn't have to die if you read it correctly. Then again, if you read it another way, she does die. Makes for a creative book ending, though is practically illegal in Hollywood. Fans would boycott! I don't really like how it ends, but the movie has good values...She didn't die in vain. It really shows the rewards of true love and of being a good person.
Rating: 8/10-->Go see it, you will love it, afterwards read the book!

Move: A Walk to Remember
I did not like this film, although I must say it is a pretty good teen movie, unlike many others. Unfortunately I found this movie to be boring, predictable, and very uninteresting. Some of the parts in the movie could have been cut out all together, and did not fit in with the movie at all. I think the actors over acted, and I guess they didn't have much to work with from the book.

Title: A Walk To Remember
Year of Release: 2002
Starring: Shane West, Mandy Moore, and Peter Coyote
Director: Adam Shankman
I had zero expectations for this movie. In fact I’m not even quite sure why I saw it. But I am incredibly glad I did. The first thing I would like to discuss is whether or not Mandy Moore can act, and the answer to that is quite simple… definitely. (Plus She Is Gorgeous!) We already know Shane West can do a pretty good job at acting as well, and he didn’t disprove that theory. This movie starts out following a popular guy who makes a guy jump off a bridge. The guy gets really hurt, so now Landon (Shane West) has to do community service: tutoring, cleaning, and performing in the spring play. When it comes to the play, he needs help with his lines, so he goes to Jamie (Mandy Moore.) The chemistry and interaction between the two leads, in my opinion, was perfect.
Jamie’s father (Peter Coyote) was very over protective, as he is a Reverend. He obviously doesn’t want Jamie to date this popular guy. Landon convinces the Reverend to let him date Jamie. The rest of the movie is fairly simple, but amazingly well done. I couldn’t help myself from getting into the somewhat cheesy dialogue, the love, the sickness, the play, and the popular people vs. Jamie. I really can’t say what was the highlight of this movie, because in my opinion, it was all great.
This movie proved that you don’t need incredible special effects, or mind blowing back plots, or all of that mumbo-jumbo… all you need is a good story, and love. Love for the story you are trying to tell, and love for the people around you. And all of the people involved with this film obviously loved what they were doing. Hell, I loved what they were doing.
8/10

A WALK TO REMEMBER (2002) Rating: 4/10
Teen romances have become very painful for me. It started in 2000 with HERE ON EARTH (2/10), continued on with CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL (5/10) in 2001 and now A WALK TO REMEMBER. I don't know when the creators of these movies stopped caring, but they better start caring soon. The month of January scares me because it is usually the worst month for movies. Studios save all of their great movies for December and in January send out whatever's left on the shelf.
A WALK TO REMEMBER is exactly the same as every other movie of this genre. It seems with each of these movies I get even more irritated. This film is filled with so many clichés it's not even funny. This is a line in the movie: "Everything was going fine, then you happened." I'm serious. That's the kind of dialogue these characters say. The screenplay by Karen Janszen is filled with the most unbelievable and insane dialogue. Does she realize real people don't talk like that? I've never read the book, but I have a high suspicion it's better than the movie.
The only thing that saves this movie is the fact that Moore and West have chemistry. It's rare in these movies, but it does happen in this one. I don't personally like Mandy Moore, but she makes the most of the material. I don't really like Shane West either, but the two make a good pair. It's a pity that they couldn't have had something decent to work with.
It is no doubt that teenage girls will eat up this kind of shit. It's not their fault, they don't know any better http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif. But, the lack of emotion is a real drag. This film will be easily forgotten.

Not a bad movie. Not bad at all. Of course, I already knew that it was gonna be another teeny-bopper type film. But for what it is worth, I was quite entertained. Mandy Moore did an OUTSTANDING job here. She has a very promising career ahead of her, should she decide to continue acting. I liked her character. Sorta nerdy, but very down to earth. And Shane West, wow, what an excellent performance. The transformation really was believable.
The negatives: obviously, its aimed at teens, so its VERY cliched. I rolled my eyes at the whole leukemia thing...but somehow I was able to get past that and appreciate the emotional moments.
The actors, in my opinion, were the heart and soul of this film. It has a powerful message that can be appreciated by everyone. I think everyone will come to their own appreciation of this film. 7/10

I agree with you JoBlo, this movie was not very good. It was a melodramatic pre-teen chick flick. I am surprised that so many people claimed that they liked it. Mandy Moore's character seemed (at most times) like a self-righteous twit. I must seem like a horrible person to some of you people, but I could not find myself feeling sorry for anyone. In fact, i had to stifle my laughing when the sad news broke out. 4/10.
P.S. Mandy Moore looks nasty with brown hair.

when i first saw the trailers for this film i thought "oh great another pop singer doing a movie." but after this movie. i started to really like mandy moore. her acting was amazing in this film. same with shane west's. i was forced to go watch the film with my friends one night, and it was the first movie i cried in! i was amazed about how the film turned out. and to tell you the truth i never heard of the book a walk to remember untill i saw the film. Yes they did have alot of cheesy stuff in the film, but the acting and chemistry was absoulty amazing. A walk to remember is now one of my favorite movies. And i hope to see more acting from mandy moore and shane west!

Well, JoBlo, we finally disagree. I should probably mention straight off the bat that many guys will not really like this movie--or just won't admit that they liked it. It is, I HATE to use this word, a "chick-flick", I suppose. But I just wish that guys would stop making fun of Landon Carter turning into a nice guy and, instead, TAKE NOTES ON HIM!!!! Guys, this is how you treat a girl!!! This movie is possibly the sweetest, saddest, most wonderful movie that I've ever seen. Any movie that can either make me crack up, think hard, scream, or cry my eyes out (and this definitely made me cry my eyes out) has done their job. I've always liked Mandy Moore and I own all of her CD's. Still, I wasn't expecting dynamite from her. But she came through with flying colors. She's a surprisingly good actress and it's nice to see a "pop star" playing roles that aren't exactly like her. She kind of did that in "Princess Diaries" (6/10), but still did well. In this movie, she showed her range, made me cry and made me love her. She did such a perfect job. She was the only person for this role!
Shane West is a new addition to my hottie list as well as my favorite actor's list! He's a cool guy. That's all I can say. He acted the crap out of this role and I loved the chemistry between Moore and West. It was almost a Romeo and Juliet vibe...maybe not.
The ending wasn't a surprise to me...thanks to my friend spilling the beans by accident. Otherwise, it would have surprised me. But knowing the end made me cry throughout almost the entire movie! I'm serious! The ENTIRE movie, I was crying uncontrollably. I soaked my sleeves (bring tissues if you watch it!) and any other piece of cloth I could find to wipe my eyes on! It's just so freakin' sad! I found the play that Landon is in to be cute and necessary. I never--not once--thought to myself...this movie is corny! It's not!!! Just because it doesn't have blood, violence, language, sex and gore does NOT mean it's corny. Just because it tells a story about values and true love does NOT mean it's corny. Jamie's list of things to do before she died made the movie even more touching. I don't see how any person could not love this movie. It definitely goes down in my book as one of the best movies in the history of all time. What a great film--for the whole family, too!!! I'm buying this as soon as it goes on DVD day after tomorrow!!!

God, let me forget A WALK TO REMEMBER! A WALK is shallow, sappy, unrealistic, and insulting to anyone who pays good money to see it. It stars pop-singer Mandy Moore as Jaime, a "Jesus Freak" who is (of course) a nerd, as all Christians must be; and hane West as Landen, a popular guy with no brain or personality who falls in love with her. The film takes of when Landen is punished for participating in an initiating ceremony that leaves a classmate paralyzed. He is forced to star in the school play. But stud-muffin Landen can't remembr his lines on his own. He needs someone to hold his hand and baby-step him through life. Enter Jamie. She's the local pastor's daughter which basically means she is a Christian. She carries her Bible around everywhere and shoves her faith down everybody's throat and has a voice like a two-year-old. Oh yeah, and she can't wear normal clothes because she is a Christian. Jamie helps Landen out with his lines and the two become "utside of school friends". Who'd guess that Golden Boy, who drives a nice car and wears stylish clothes, would fall in love with the Virgin Mary, who has worn the same pea-green sweater since first grade? I sure did. ABout halfway into the film we learn that (ALAS) Jamie has cancer. Even in her last fading moments, she looks perfectly healthy. Well, the ending is sappy and totally predictable, but let's not ruin it for everyone, I say. The acting in this film is terrible. West just stands there and tries to look senstive...he succeeds once...almost. He'good looking, but his acting skills rate down there with Babe the pig. Mandy Moore comes out better than sweet. While she is believable as a sweet (yet annoying) Christian, her "cancer moments" ae not believable at all. And as for acting like nerd, Moore just lets that sweater do the talking. Other actors include a horribly miscast Peter Coyote as Jamie overbearing and protective father and Daryl Hannah as Landen's mother, who is never given an real character traits of her own. The relationships between the characters ar terribly written and acted for example, the subplot with the paralyzed boy should have beendealt wih for more than to seconds or dropped to begin with). Overall, I found the film UNBEARABLE. Recommended to no one.

this was one of the best love stories i have every watched. this was'nt just a teen movie it was a movie that anyone who likes a good love story could enjoy. my wife and i are both 45 and we loved it. i am not ashamed to say like my wife i was bawling like a baby the last hour of this movie. but the part that got me the most was when landon wented to his dad and was crying on his shoulder i just broke into sobs.but that just the way i am in movies like this i am just as big a cry-baby as my wife.

This movie was AWESOME! I myself am not a teenager either and I enjoyed every minute of it. This movie lets all those people out there that don't think they have a chance in love that you will always find someone no matter how you are and what you think. My favorite was Landon's expressions while Jamie was singing - I love it!
If you have not gotten the soundtrack - go buy it. The music is great.

I like a lot of movies but this surpassed the rest. I didn't want to see it for a long time but I was extremely glad when I finally did. I hardly ever cry during movies (aside from Schindler's List) but I was bawling when I watched this one. I read the book after seeing the movie and it was great too. They did a wonderful job adapting the book set in the fifties to the movie set in modern times. Even the music is fantastic. mandy moore has a very good voice and she can play the part of an innocent girl really well. I love shane west in this one. And to those who say it's one of those teen movies - it's got a lot more depth than any other I've ever seen. they have real, true, everlasting love - everything anyone could ever hope for. my only fear is that I'll watch it and read it and listen to it so many times that I'll get sick of it!

As a guy, I conceded to watch this film and was highly skeptical going in, save even for the countless good things my friends (girls) had said about it. I did however despite being a varsity football player, find myself enjoying the movie on many levels. Mandy Moore is very cute, and did a good job acting in it. The guy they picked to play the lead male role, wasn't exactly the goof off you'd find in a real high school, (seriously no one popular carries around a book bag, especially a guy). However not having read the book, I was intrigued by the storyline, and ended up crying along with everyone else. Save for a corny line in the end, "sorry she never got her miracle. oh but she did, it was you," it was a good film. Worth seeing, even for a tough guy. 8.5/10

upon personal reflection, i had a real friend just like mandy who
also died as a teenager. She taught me alot about basic human
consideration.
i think the story has a place in the universe; and it may be
very helpful and insightful for many a **struggling with feelings**
person
and as far as the puppets who have to have opinions based
on group mentality, having neither the brains nor the balls,
to say yes to what reaches deep into the heart of ones own
truth `- poor them

The movie A Walk To Remember is one of the sweetest movies i have ever seen. I am all about the romance movies. I did not care for the movie and what i heard about but the moment i watched it i cried. From the love, the fights and friendship and how he showed his true emotions even though it was not accepted, that is so sweet.
For people who dont like this movie, they probly arent a romantic becuz i think this movie was extremely excellent.:D
I loved how "Landon" tried to make all of "Jamies" wishes come true...one of the very best parts was at the end when he told her father that he was sorry that she did not get her miracle and her father said yes she did that it was him...that made me cry.
