The New Guy 6/10...

The New Guy is just another entry in a long and recenet line of high-school/college gross-out comedies that fall flat because they are mostly disgusting and just not funny. although this film is no where near as gross as some others it still wasn't very funny. DJ Qualls is ok as a dweeb from one high-school who changes his image and becomes popular at a new high-school...Of course the cliches of staying true to yourself and your friends are old. This film isn't a total dud...there are some fun and interesting moments...like take offs of Braveheart and Patton(two of my favorite films). There are also a lot of various cameos from people like Tony Hawk, Tommy Lee, Vanilla Ice, Gene Simmons, Henry Rollins. There was some good eye-candy....a slutty blonde and of course Eliza Dushku who I just can't get enough of. A scene where she is modelling bikinis was great and worth seeing this movie alone. Well apart from my last shallow comment...The New Guy is an ok high-school comedy that isn't as gross as some of the others but still not funny and original enough.

Being a teen myself, I did enjoy this film. However, I did find it quite mediocre. Having already read JoBlo's review, you know the basic premise, so I will just expand on it and tell you why I think it is worth more than a 3/10.

The film is, to me, a "feel good" flick. It's mostly slapstick and fart-joke type comedy, but there are several humorous moments throughout the film. Unfortunately, many of the jokes were overused (i.e. "Evil-eye:, and "Tiger Claw"). Another down-side was that most, if not all of the situational comedy in the movie was VERY unbelievable. Again, however, the humor is funny enough so that the inconsistensies (sp?) can be for the most part overlooked.

It is also definately not a very good "teen-movie". It is more of a 10-14 age range. I enjoyed it in theaters, but would definately say it is more of a "renter". I could watch it again and enjoy it, but it would become old after that. So overall, I really kind of liked The New Guy, but there are other movies of the same genre which are much better.

The New Guy 7/10

Teen comedies these days don't do that well. Some like American Pie and Fast Times at Ridgemont High have become hits with audiences. While others like She's all That and Cruel Intentions don't well.

The New Guy is about a kid named Dizzy. Him and his buddies have become blips on the radar. After an overdose of his pills, he ends up in jail and meets Luther, the popular guy in prison played by Eddie Griffin.

Dizzy gets expelled so he can go see Luther to learn how to be cool. Luther teaches him the crazy eyes, Tiger Claw, how to walk, and how to say Bitch.

He then arrives at his new school. Where he ends up being the popular kid. He almost gets laid, dates the head cheerleadear, he also changes the school in a whole new way.

The movie has a lot of funny moments. Not to mention funny dialogue. DJ Qualls has some elements of dizzy in him. The cheerleader chick Eliza Dushku is hot not just in a bikini but just in normal clothes. I also thought the chick that dizzy was about to make out with was hot. Most of the cameos were actually funny. I didn't even recognize Gene simons with the wig.

I reccomend the New Guy. The New Guy is a hilarious teen comedy with great laughs, cameos, and Hot CHicks like Eliza Dushku and the other one I mentioned.

It was ok. but never the less stupid.

Eddie Griffin's whip sounding face was funny, but those cut in bits where he told the story was crap. dj qualls is crap.

i think the breaking-his-penis thing was so incredibly stupid.

Eliza dushku in this was just to attract guys, but she was hot.

braveheart thing was crap.

ending was crap,cliched.

This teen comedy tries really hard to be another American Pie, but unfortunately falls flat. Dj. Qualls as the Nerd who becomes cool is pretty good, but the whole story is just stupid and for the most part unfunny.

Eliza Dushku plays another typecast role as the popular cheerleader. It does have one or two funny ''gross-out'' moments but very far and few in between. I think a lot more could have been done with this comedy because DJ. Qualls and Eddie griffin had the potential to be really funny together.
