Dragonfly 6/10...
Dragonfly is a so-so movie about life after death, near death experiences and dealing with a lost one...that is well made, well acted...but too cliched and a bit slow and boring for my taste...oh and did I mention I just totally didn't buy the ending. Costner is pretty good as a doctor who loses his wife to an accisent in Venezuela and almost looses his mind trying to figure out if she is dead or not or is trying to vontact him etc. It's a nice idea but the buildup involving spooky occurences and unexplainable events just got tiresome and redundant after a while. Kathy bates is pretty good as Costner's concerned neighbor but ultimately Dragonfly seems to fall flat. It's not that it is terrible it just wasn't that good either...merely OK.

The film's plot focuses on a work-a-holic doctor, Joe Darrow(Kevin Costner) who just recently lost his wife in a terrible accident. Later on, Joe starts to hear things from children that his wife is trying to communicate with him.
I happen to like psycho-logical thrillers, that's the only reason I decided to see this film. But in the end, the movie turned out to be bad.
Acting-wise, well, the only star in this film is Kevin Costner. As for his performance, it was nothing great, but nothing bad either. Actually, Costner is just cashing a nice paycheck.
One of Dragonfly's biggest problems is the fact that it feels too much like M. Night Shyamalan's classic thriller, The Sixth Sense.
Another thing, the film becomes so stupid and unbelievable towards the end. It seemed to me that the scriptwriters just ran out of good ideas. Also, according to Universal, they claim there are many major plot twists in this film. That's a bunch of bullshit! There's only one "plot twist", and it doesn't even make any damn sense.
I will admit, Dragonfly held my interest in it's first and second half. But unfortunately, it's final act was so horrible, it made me hate the film. Dragonfly isn't as bad as Kevin Costner's more recent films, but still, it ain't worth spending your time or money.
Running Time: 1 hour 48 minutes
Grade: 4/10

I hated this movie.
REASONS
1). When it is supposed to be dramatic it is down right laughable
2). The character dialouge is just baaaad
EXAMPLE:
KEVIN COSTNER: I wanna go white water rafting
KATHY BATES: Why do you want to see that?
KEVIN COSTNER: To see white water ( and the funny part was I don't think it was a joke!)
3). Very predictable ending
4). Unbelivable constanly
GRADE: D-
(the only reason I diden't flunk it was because of the scene where the little black kid eyes bugged out: that was some freaky shit, and I screamed (litterly)
But overall I was laughing more then I breathing durring this "movie"!

While not a fantastic film, I found this film to be entertaining the whole way through. I guess everyone will come to their own appreciation of it. I found the ending to be quite nice. But it isn't as horrible as everyone has been saying. 6/10

This was an exellent movie. Although it was a little far fetched in parts of the film the other parts made it awsome. Kathy Bates knows how to act she did a great preformence in tis film. I wasn't expecting this film after all the bad reviews its gotten but I don't know what people are talking about. Don't listin to these reviews and go see it.

Dragonfly - 8/10

This was an incredibly good movie. It's psychological, a little freaky, and gives you a good insight into the both the transition of life to death to life and how the dead can communicate with us. If that sort of thing just ain't in your interests, then you can't appreciate what went into this film.
It starts off with Kevin Costner's character showing signs of being too on-edge over the death of his wife to concentrate on his work... then it starts to unfold into ... uh... he's just lost it, everyone thinks he's crazy, he believes himself that he is going crazy, then the story starts to develop.
I can think of several instances that sent a chill up my spine... the bird going "honey I'm home" and wrecking the house, that was just the big scene for me.. Her face in the window, the child's eyes bugging out, when that one dead patient grabbed Costner... there were a lot of them.
The ending was a little weird, but it worked for me.. the native translator-officer guy that chased him as he jumped in the waterfall was a decent character for the movie - the scene on the bus as he was sinking was a sight to behold, and him discovering his daughter at the villiage was a heart-warming, eye-opening way to end the film.
Of course, we also have a new look and act for the "Waterboy mom", Kathy Bates, and Costner's concerned neighbor.. I kept thinking about "The Waterboy" all the way through this how much different her role was in each film. She can play a serious part to the number as well as she can a funny one. As for the rest of the cast, I'm not sure where the nun belonged in this film (miscast), and most of the other people were just generic, but no one had a really bad part in it.
The one thing that I really put down is that little squiggly cross symbol (shaped a little like a dragonfly) was a tad overused.. a couple of instances and we could have gotten the point, we really don't need the thing tatood on the windows and a million sheets of paper....
But despite that minor flaw, I loved the movie, and it was worth the Pay-Per-View I paid for seeing it (forget that I was in the process of getting drunk as I was watching it).... EXCELLENT MOVIE FOLKS!

Kevin Costner...hmm
I rented this movie of PPV the other day...it was either this or "A Walk To Remember"...so I went with this film.
I really didn't have high expectations for it. Since it didn't get one good or mixed review. But I was surprised, but not by much.
I agree with Strider, the final act is horrible, and it is WAY to much like The Sixth Sense. But it is not really terrible. Nor terribly good, it's somewhere in between. And I see how a lot of people could find common ground with this flick.
Kevin Costner delivers an OK performance...not like his previous ones in "Field Of Dreams" or "Dances With Wolves", but still OK. Some of the effects and coincidences are a bit over-done.
It could've been a helluva lot better, but I guess not...
