Blackadder

In my opinion the best TV show that has ever been.
For those who don't know the four series tell the story of the various incarnations of Edmund Blackadder through history.
Series 1: The Middle Ages
Series 2: Elizabethan period
Series 3: Edwardian period
Series 4: World War 1 (In the trenches)

Added to this is one of the show's funniest aspects, the fact that with each passing series Blackadder's social status falls. He begins as a prince and ends up as a captain in world war 1.

Series 4 is often regarded as the best, It's not my favourite but it does contain perhaps the best episode of all 4 series "Goodbyee", this episode is quite brilliant, making you laugh and, when Blackadder, Baldrick, George and Darling go over the top, making you cry.

Blackadder's best dialogue always came when insulting people. Here's some of the best:

TO BALDRICK
"Your brain is so minute Baldrick that if a hungry cannibal cracked your head open he wouldn't find enough inside to cover a small water biscuit."

TO BALDRICK
"You're the worst entertainer since St Paul the evangelist toured Palestine with his trampoline act"

ON THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL
"He's the most overrated human being since Judas Iscariot won the AD 31 best disciple competition"

It's brilliant the way Rowan Atkinson makes constant sarcastic remarks to Baldrick, and all around.

My favorites are the second and the 4th series, they have so many memorable moments. It really is one of the funniest shows ever, and a lot of the expressions constantly used live on. Like Baldrick's "I have a cunning plan"...priceless.

The best part of each episode would be Blackadder insulting someone just like you said. And I, as a great friend of sarcasm, took a lot of influences of the way he replied to the stupid questions asked often by Baldrick.

It is a great show.

Its a great great show, but BOTTOM exceeds it on all counts. I love both shows but Bottom was just brilliant.

I never thought much of Bottom. I can see the appeal but it's just not really my thing. You draw an odd comparison thought, Blackadder and Bottom are not at all similar in my eyes. Blackadder had many levels, for those who knew a little history the show was much funnier due to the excellent jokes about the period.

Bottom didn't really have this subtlety. As I say not nessecarily a BAD thing, just not for me

Bottom pales in comparison to Blackadder and the utterly great The Young Ones...

I love Blackadder and I really enjoyed the intelligence of the show. I'm sorry but I much prefer it to Bottom

Anyone to say that BOTTOM exceeds the likes of Blackadder clearly didn't understand the humour of the programme and decided to dull themselves with slapstick humour, with the fucking Rick Mayall doing piss poor comedy (if you can call it that) on screen!
