View Full Version : Why couldn't have MTV2 appeared around 1989 and the videos could have stayed on MTV?

Before MTV turned into nothing but another channel that doesn't play music videos.
M2 is a great channel, and mostly always plays videos.
Who here wishes that M2 would have been created back in the 80s as a venue for crap like Real World, Road Rules, etc.?
Or am I the only one?

w/ all the Real World/Road Rules/Real Rules/Road World spinoffs they have, I figure they'd at least show a music video since they're named Music Television, but that's a lie. there's always Jackass and the Osbournes luckily

I don't watch MTV anymore. I'm sick of waiting for them to play the videos I want to see. I'd rather download from NothingVideos or UCV and watch the videos on my PC. All they show is rap and pop drivel.

No, you're both wrong. The gayest channel on Earth is E! (Steve Kmetko, Tom O'Neil, Patrick Stinson, must I continue?)

You know, I think I am one of the only Schmoes that loves Real World/Road Rules. I think MTV has some of the best(Real World/Road Rules, Jackass, The Osbournes, Diary, and a couple others) and the worst (everything else). But most people just hate it outright. Its understandale though.

Hey! I love Real World/Road rules too, and the only problem I have with The Osbournes is I have to watch it with closed captioning on; usually I can understand heavy accents but I can almost never understand ozzy.
Though, I live in canada and have only been getting it in the past few months since we only just got mtv up here a little while ago (although it is MTVCanada and totally blows for anything but those show)

Here in Britain MTV2 has only been running for about 2 years and it's pretty good going right now. It plays alternative music and none of the crappy chart music.
But i can easily see that they were very slow in coming up with the idea of more than one music channel. There was VH1 and MTV. Had MTV come up with MTV2 back about a decade ago then it would be so much bigger than it is now, it would be more successful, and probably would have been an all round better channel in the long run.
But, in Britain Satellite TV is immensely popular and so many people have Sky, which hosts about 9 music channels on it and it's all getting kinda crazy. 2 of the channels only being good!
